****ALERT ON MCAFEE REBATES****
It has been reported on SD that McAfee through its rebate processor, Parago, has started to enforce a one per product restriction on its rebates. Until this is sorted out, submitting more than one rebate per product is not advised even if the rebate has a different rebate number and different offer period. The rebate invalidation message has been reported as "Your rebate request did not pass our audit process".
* - CONTINUING = CONTINUING means the rebate did not begin in this time period so it is necessary to check your rebate log to determine whether you have done this rebate already.
For the last batch of TM rebates that have been processed, I used a photocopy of a product cd and the rebate was validated... (more)

I had purchased new 2011 version of mcafees from OD (IS and TP). My rebates were invalidated by mcafee without giving any reason. The parago could not do anything as Mcafee HQ did that. Kent at Parago is usually helpful, but he said basically same thing. What follows is long story.
I filed BBB against Mcafee and Parago. Mcafee guy called me to tell that I had filed 8 rebates for 2010 and 4 rebates for 2011 versions (although most of the softwares had 2 rebates, that damn stupid could not understand that). He wanted to find out that I have not activated any software and if I am commercial using them he can put me on that. He wanted some kind of proof before he said he can validate my rebates (this was just during the holidays).
I wrote to OD customer service and within next 2-3 days they were able to get the rebates validated by themselves.
Long story short avoid Mcafee rebates like plague.

Sounds like you may have been attempting to violate the "Terms and Conditions" associated with the rebate contract. Generally, these include a clause something like, "Limit one rebate per name, address, household or company" with the same restrictions applied to: (1) the discount rebate and (2) any additional associated product upgrade rebate.
Eight rebates (4 discount + 4 upgrade) rebates for 2010 McAfee products and four rebates (2 discount and 2 upgrade) for multiple copies of the same (or variations on the same) product would seem to violate the terms and intent of the rebate contract. I am not surprised that Parago and McAfee denied rebate claims for duplicate product purchases.

Im surprised that is still being discussed. I think everyone should know by now the issue with mcafee rebates and to not buy their FAR software.... That has been going on for a long time and the reason why nobody buys mcafee software anymore. NEVER buy mcafee software expecting to get the rebates after one redemption...

No, that is not what hes talking about.... If a submission has multiple rebates or even different offer periods, they are only allowing one. So, if you got your ONE rebate through one offer then another offer came along a few months later, they will deny those rebates. I am not exactly sure how they can do that when products are advertised with multiple rebates but... You can do some poking around to get the details.
Mcafee software is terrible anyways, I have not purchased any of their stuff for probably close to 10 years, even when it is FREE. Antivirus/Protection software is FAR all the time by other (better) companies.
You know youre in bad shape when people wont even bother to get the software for FREE!

Sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about about. This isn't rocket science. The way it is, and has been, for single FAR items from EVERY other company has been one item per product, per household, per that's rebate term (given that there is no special rebate form wording stating anything different). No special rebate form wording can be found on any Mcafee forms.
So, yes...those sleazy P.O.S.'s need to be left alone like the plague...end of story.

McAfee also patrols feebay and gets your auctions cancelled via VERO. They won't let you resell their factory sealed software on feebay! Stay away from them!!!

You should select the "Pick-Up" but not "Delivery" to get the lower price and apply the coupon.

Both the Trend Micro rebate and Trend Micro upgrade rebate require original proof of purchase (no photocopies allowed). How do you all handle that situation?

When it comes to Mcafee Rebates, until the check has cleared or the debit card sent, there is a good chance something may go wrong. I had a Mcafee rebate that was valid for about 8 weeks and then suddenly became invalid. In addition, most software vendors, such as Trend, Symantec etc. will allow the consumer to request a check instead of a debit card, but Mcafee will not.

I haven't had any trouble with McAfee rebates personally. This includes submitting multiple rebates for the same products during the timeframe when others were first getting rejection notices. For some reason I lucked out!
I've also successfully submitted multiple rebates for different versions of their 2011 software and they've been approved. This could change in the future, but for now I'm going to go with the theory that McAfee is blacklisting people they deem to be abusing their rebates. Once you're blacklisted (per zindagi's experience) they look for (or just make up) reasons to invalidate your future rebate submissions as well. If you haven't submitted McAfee rebates before they really shouldn't be any more problematic than Norton, Trend Micro, or any other Parago processed rebates. I wouldn't actually use the McAfee software, but assuming you're making the purchase for other reasons and haven't already submitted their 2011 rebates you don't need to avoid them.

Sorry for the stupid questions, but what is the difference between a proof of purchase and a UPC code?
According to your links they are defined as the same thing. Thanks for trying though.

A UPCis the 12 digit barcode on the bottom of the box, and the proof of purchase is a box seal, usually the seal is on the inside flap of the box but occasionally it's on the bottom of the box and the seal states proof of purchase on it.

I did the Trend Micro FAR offer through Staples SER #10-39308 in late November last year. Would I still qualify for the two new rebates for OD's Trend Micro offer?
Indecided said: I did the Trend Micro FAR offer through Staples SER #10-39308 in late November last year. Would I still qualify for the two new rebates for OD's Trend Micro offer? For Trend Micro rebates there is no issue as long as the rebate offer numbers are different. Since the rebate offer numbers are different, all is good.
JamesTKirk said: namelessness said: Did not see proof of purchase on the bottom of the box. If you mean Trend Micro, send a copy of UPC. After they reject you, you need to call and tell them there was no proof of purchase on box. The only Trend Micro titles with a missing proof of purchase seal are the Trend Micro / LOJACK combo boxes.
Otherwise, the proof of purchase seal is on one of the top inside flaps under the box top.
Maybe this will help with the UPC vs Proof of Purchase

Proof of prior ownership of a retail (boxed or downloaded) stand-alone version of Trend Micro PC-cillin, or any Norton™ or McAfee™ product, by providing one of the following: product CD, product disk (disk 1 only), title page of owner’s manual from a retail purchase, or the email confirmation for a download purchase.
I have the CD, do they want a copy of it or the actual CD? TIA.
