I bought an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner marked down from $50 to $20.xx. Then it was 50% less because all small clearance items were half-off.
Sorry, no sku, bu tI thought you'ld want to know.

877074 ultrasonic cleaner $20.50

Is the sku wrong for the 13" black sleeve? 915282 doesn't work, and 915782 does, but I'm not sure if it's the right sku.

Yep 915782 is the correct SKU, Staples guy looked it up & said it was the laptop sleeve in black but couldn't find it anywhere in the store

I remember some of the stores in my local area had a price scanner in them but they disappeared from those stores several years ago.

I live in a rural area, with the closest Staples about 10 miles away, but I have 10 stores within 15 miles, and more than 50 stores within 40 miles. As I travel I have found some stores that treat Clearance Items as a real draw, with areas of the store set up to display them with YELLOW Clearance $ on them. Other stores do not even post yellow tags on their clearance items, and oftentimes have those items stored away in bins or on the overhead shelving. I'm identifying which stores do which, and as I travel (I'm a Realtor) I will focus on the stores that ID Clearance Items and post them. I will add the better stuff here. It may not be often, and it may not be much, but I appreciate the postings that you all do here. In the past 6 months I picked up 2 of the Heier Refrigerators (traveled to a store 50 miles away but worth the trip)for $26.50, 2 of the monitor stands for $2.50, several of the Manhattan Furniture sets (desk, hutch, shelf and file drawer) for under $70 for family, 4 of the Lexmark color lasers for $50, and quite a bit of the smaller stuff. I'm not citing SKU numbers on this stuff because it's posted elsewhere here (that's how I found it) and I'm sure they are all picked clean everywhere.

The ability to search store inventory via the previously-posted links makes the process of finding clearance items EASY! I call and confirm inventory, BUT I confirm pricing specifically at a non-inventoried store first! Then, when I call to check and inventories store, I do NOT ask them to confirm price. I make sure that they take my name and cell# regarding the item, and I take the name of the clerk who I speak to, and let them know when I will be in. I "remind" them that I'm travelling a distance (I give a location FAR from their store) and that I would "appreciate" that the products be there when I get there; that there have been occasions in the past where products have "been sold" while I was on the way. If they tell me that they cannot "hold" clearance items, I ask them to write my Premier Rewards Card (the BLACK one) number on my "Request for hold". It reduces the "walk-away" problem by store techs who use my bird-dogging for their own benefit. Most will not risk a conversation between me and a store manager over a disappeared item. Since "holds" are only good until the end of business that day, i do NOT call stores to confirm inventory unless I expect to be near that store that day.

BTW, I got a Motorola Xoom Tablet for $219 thanks to this thread.

The rule is DO NOT Call. If you are happy about scoring these deals, just think of it this way, For every 1 hot deal item you called and scored, you probably lost 9 other hot deals. If you are near a store anyways, then why would you call ?

SavagePA - I've said before and will say again - thanks for being one of the few regular contributors to this thread. I look forward to seeing more posts! One thing I'd strongly recommend is calling the 1-800-Staples number to get store inventory instead of calling the store. The CSRs at the 800 # have the same ability to check local stock AND local store clearance price that the associates in the store do. This way you can get the info ahead of time and not tip off local employees (and not piss off other people in this thread who, like myself, hold the do not call rule as the #1 commandment of hot deals). It should also save you a heck of a lot of time and work - now you don't have to call 2 stores (one for price and one for availability) and you don't have to try to intimidate anyone into not taking your finds. Thanks for posting your process though - and boy do I envy your proximity to so many stores!

Yep, some people just don't get it. SavagePA may not ask them to check the price, but when they see the price on the screen, guess what - it's no longer in stock!

If the tech guy looks up the item on the regular site instead of the inventory system, it will just say if they have it in stock or not. Usually most associates don't use that site though.

And, does anyone know the price on the SR2320L 23" LED Monitor? SKU 420757

agree. the other issue with calling is it makes people hesitant to post deals. a relative of an ex-coworker of mine works at Staples. he used to post about hot deals he found but got annoyed when his store would get dozens of calls about the deals he posted and stopped posting them. especially with Staples when you can get the info from the 800#.

I think you have the wrong sku. If it's the same deal as SD then it is 912243. Your sku says delivery only.

rated:

It's 912243.

I found 3 110 miles apart (last 3 available) using the suggested call to 1-800-Staples AFTER I bird-dogged it using the link provided here. Then I called the store, told them I had just gotten off the phone with 1-800-Staples and was told their store had a kindle DX for me. I gave them my name, cell # and Premier Card Number, and told them I would be in before Close of Business for it. Of the 5 stores that 800-Staples said had it, 3 confimed that they did and held them for me to pick up. When one clerk told me they don't hold Clearance Merchandise, I spoke to the manager who was happy to do so. At another store with a lazy tech rep who said he DIDN'T THINK they had one, I asked for the manager and he sent the techie looking again. They FOUND one! Maybe the other 2 stores DID have them, but I was happy with three, and considering the distance traveled and an afternoon spent, calling still works best for me. But I used what I learned here to make it work for me.

One store said they were not allowed to sell Clearance Displays, but one of the 3 I bought WAS a display and they took 10% off. THAT was probably a dodge, but I already had 3 when I called that store. It wouldn't have been any different if I had gone in.

None of the stores I went to had any significant clearance items, and I cruised each store carefully looking for yellow tags. So I have nothing to share. But I will.

No, they can definitely tell you the actual price, but lately I've been getting a LOT of inexperienced reps who check the wrong area of their system it seems. They first give me the full retail and/or web price, and then I say, "no it's a sale clearance item" and they hit a few more things and finally chime in with the price people list in the thread. Sometimes I have to completely give up with a rep and thank them, get off the line and call back in hopes of getting someone who's not oblivious to checking store pricing and availability.

Used inventory checker, found one in Falmouth, Maine (25 minutes away). At store, found it was "returned" missing 3 caps on the legs and some scratches on wood, and was being used in breakroom. However, it sat NICE! Bought it for my home office, instead of reselling it. Manager wouldn't do any more than 5% off of $48.90. I bought the Staples Furniture Protection Plan for $9.99. I may return that after I study options.

Inventory checker shows the normal retail price, not current price, and only on certain screens. The only way to see the actual current price of something is to sign into the register, and scan the item in or enter the SKU in. Price checking it using the actual "price check" function does not show clearance prices.

Local store inventory checker only shows how many on hand, and the history of the item.
Wide search checker shows which stores in the specific search field(usually checked by region) have the item, if any, and if there are any that are considered damaged.

If you call the 800 number, or a store, regarding any technology products that have a display(printers, desktops, laptops, cameras, etc.) and they say there is one in stock based on the inventory search, it means they don't have it normally. It's a display. The only time Staples will ever sell a display is if it is a clearance item and is the very last one. On top of that, for those devices, if one is returned, it's damage. It cannot be retrieved from damage, and will not be sold. Returns of technology products are generally sent straight to damage, regardless of whether or not there is actually damage to the item. The only exception to this is desktops, laptops, and printers, which can be inspected and resold if they are fine. Hard drives will never be pulled from damage.

Do not get mad if a store won't hold an item for you. Everything posted here, and on SD, or other sites similar, are Clearance and Final items. Staples policy is to generally NOT hold those items. It is entirely up to the manager of the store if they allow clearance items to be held. Discounts on displays are the same way. Some managers will give a discount on the display item, most will not.
