Tips to utilize this thread:
* If you think a title posted in this thread might be (even slightly) interesting, "buy" first and think later. Some of these titles are very limited and will go back up in price rather quickly.
* Take into consideration that the Star Ratings listed are often very subjective. They are slightly more trustworthy with more reviews. The ones with only 1-5 reviews are probably friends and family, and they have to be nice. Still, I will try my best to only post books worth their while.
* Ereaderiq.com and daily-free-ebooks.com are excellent resources that automatically updates whenever new freebies are added to Amazon. You can sign up for alerts. You can also monitor Amaz0n's freebie "bestseller" list here.

Other Tips and Resources:
* Kindle supports multiple formats, including mobi, prc, txt, jpg, gif, HTML, and Word files
* You can send unprotected Word, PDF, HTML, TXT, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files to your Kindle e-mail address. These can be converted for free by attaching them to an email sent to your Kindle email address ("name"@free.kindle.com) with the subject line "Convert".
* Use programs like Calibre to manage and convert non-Kindle ebooks into Kindle-compatible formats.
* The Amazon Kindle Lending Program requires ownership of an actual Kindle device AND membership in Amazon Prime in order to "borrow" books for free!

Open Source eBooks:
* Project Gutengerg
* Amazon Top 100 (Free) -- Many of these are classics whose copyrights have expired. Or try this List
* Over 15,000 Public Domain books on Amazon

There is also a Kindle app for WEB OS (but only the HP TouchPad is supported).

Tip: Only so many FREE copies are sold. So ones on popular subjects are no longer FREE in a day or a few hours.

But stay alert, they may have a FREE sale on them again!

============================
As of January 30, 2013:

You may notice that free Kindle books are posted on both the Hot Deals forum and the Free Stuff forum. To clear up any confusion about why this is so, here is the official Fatwallet position on forum placement of free Kindle book announcements:

VBMcGB said:   In short, the current approach we're taking is to simply apply our guides for HD and FS to free kindle books.

If a book is valued at more than $10, it will go into HD. If less, then FS.

Because we know that some books can have drastically inflated prices in order to push "sale" times, we also have a bit of mod discretion regarding the perceived value of the book.

That's how we're currently handling these. What the future holds...I don't know.

Ravenous: A Food Lover's Journey from Obsession to Freedom by Dayna Macy [Kindle Edition]
Link
Previously $24.95 (Paperback $16.10)

"What should I eat? How much should I eat? What does it mean to be nourished? How can I, a food lover and lifelong overeater, learn to be satisfied? These are the questions Dayna Macy asks in her debut memoir, Ravenous. Like many of us, Macy has had a complicated relationship with food. In order to transform this relationship, Macy embarks on a year-long journey to uncover the origins of her food obsessions. From her childhood home in upstate New York, and back up the California coast, Macy travels across the country, meeting with farmers, food artisans, butchers, a Zen chef, a forager, a chocolatier, and others—to understand where her meals come from, why she craves certain foods, and what food means to her. She looks at how nostalgia is deeply embedded in food, and how the powerful forces of family and tradition shape our food choices. Rather than head straight for the diet manuals, she chooses to change her relationship with food from the inside out. She delves deeper into the spiritual underpinnings of eating, examines what it means to be satisfied, and ultimately forges her own path to balance and freedom."

Imaginary Jesus

Imaginary Jesus by Matt Mikalatos [Kindle Edition]
Link
Previously $12.99 (or $10.19 Paperback)

"The Apostle Peter punches Jesus in the face, then chases him out of a coffee shop. And that's just chapter 0. In this quirky tale the publisher describes as not-quite-true, former missionary and comic book store clerk Mikalatos disguises his critique of Christian life in an action-based quest to find the real Jesus. It's A Christmas Carol meets Oz, but instead of ghosts and tin men, it's a talking donkey, a motorcycle rider, and Mikalatos himself. The cast of characters drags the reader through the streets of Seattle and ancient Judea to introduce a host of fake Jesuses: Magic 8 Ball Jesus, Harley Jesus, even Liberal Social Services Jesus. They're constructs of the human mind. People invent a Jesus for one specific reason and then discard him when they don't need him anymore, says one of the Jesuses (the one with an expensive suit). Peter teaches Mikalatos that he must quiet falsehoods and mold a deeper relationship with the living, historical Jesus. Mixing questions of suffering and free will with a nexus of weirdness, Mikalatos throws Christian fiction into the world of Comic-Con and Star Wars. His silly quest is startling, contemporary, meaningful, and occasionally exhausting when the reader is puzzled. It begs for a comic book counterpart."

Gray Matter by Joel Kilpatrick

"A perfect blend of medical drama and spiritual insight, Gray Matter is a fascinating account of Dr. David Levy’s decision to begin asking his patients if he could pray for them before surgery. Some are thrilled. Some are skeptical. Some are hostile, and some are quite literally transformed by the request. Each chapter focuses on a specific case, opening with a detailed description of the patient’s diagnosis and the procedure that will need to be performed, followed by the prayer “request.” From there, readers get to look over Dr. Levy’s shoulder as he performs the operation, and then we wait—right alongside Dr. Levy, the patients, and their families — to see the final results. Dr. Levy’s musings on what successful and unsuccessful surgical results imply about God, faith, and the power of prayer are honest and insightful. As we watch him come to his ultimate conclusion that no matter what the results of the procedure are, “God is good,” we cannot help but be truly moved and inspired."

"A bodyguard? Why in the world would a demon need a bodyguard? Yes, it's true Ellina Kostova is only half demon... and an author with a cult following, but that just means strange stuff happens. She isn't in real danger. Heck, she's in more danger from Jude Anthony, the guy her brother has hired to protect her. In big danger, actually. Because she just cannot be attracted to... well, anyone. She's too much of a demon in bed. No, really. Jude has grown accustomed to being an outcast, adrift in both the mortal and preternatural worlds. Being a paid fighting machine isn't glamorous, but he does it--and many other things--spectacularly well. And man does Ellina Kostova need a lot of protection. But he needs protection, too. She's making him remember what it feels like to be human. And he's already learned no good can come of that. Especially when he's been hired not only to protect her--but also kill her.

"In the seemingly ordinary Amish home of Grace Byler, secrets abound. Why does her mother weep in the night? Why does her father refuse to admit something is dreadfully wrong? Then, in one startling moment, everything Grace assumed she knew is shattered. Her mother's disappearance leaves Grace reeling and unable to keep her betrothal promise to her long-time beau. Left to pick up the pieces of her life, Grace questions all she has been taught about love, family, and commitment. Heather Nelson is an English grad student, stunned by a doctor's diagnosis. Surely fate would not allow her father to lose his only daughter after the death of his wife a few years before. In denial and telling no one she is terminally ill, Heather travels to Lancaster County--the last place she and her mother had visited together. Will Heather find healing for body and spirit? As the lives of four wounded souls begin to weave together like an Amish patchwork quilt, they each discover missing pieces of their life puzzles--and glimpse the merciful and loving hand of God."
