Super Price...surprised there are no reviews. Anyone own this?

OOS for me at all stores near zip code 30033 (Atlanta metro).
There is a Craftsman reciprocating saw with glowing reviews for $59.99. It says "reciprocating saw with orvbital action" - what does orbital action mean? Something desirable or a marketing gimmick?
posted: Feb. 27, 2011 @ 8:21a
Orbital action means the blade goes out, down, back, up. This is standard on most saws.

Those real Rockwell hand tools are very very good. I suspect someone bought out the Rockwell name and put it on this saw. Please provide your input if you've owned this tool. Any reciprocating saw with $109 MSRP is probably average at best in quality.

for the curious, today's Sears extra 10% off does not work on this. "Offer excludes Garage Storage, Compressors, Great Price, Clearance and items with an Online Only Price"

I have used (borrowed) some very good and not so good saws in the past. My opinion of this saw I just bought is that it is very much worth it for anyone to spend $40 and get a decent 10A saw. The power is good for the amperage it is not a weak toy. It has some nice features,it comes with a comfortable grip, and a two finger speed trigger for better control. The Counterbalancing reduces vibration, and aids you in cutting a straight cut compared to some of the shaky saws I have used. The quick tool-free blade change is a plus. Cast aluminum gear case ,not cheap plastic and Accessories included: (1 ea.) 9-1/4 in. x 6 TPI blade, 6 in. x 10 TPI blade, 6 in. x 18 TPI blade, Hex wrench for shoe adjustment, heavy-duty carrying case. 2 year limited warranty. Would I put it up to the level of commercial grade, "No" but I would put it as you say "average" For $40 I can't see anyone saying that they would think it was a waste of their money. As for myself it means that it will be there when I need it and save me the trouble of borrowing or renting one. OP bhruns

jbierling said: Would it cut through a tire?yes it would. i bought a milwaukee sawzall recip saw when i lived in a condo and remodeled it. i needed to throw out a few things and i used mine to cut up a water heater, a dishwasher and a futon sofa into small enough pieces to throw into the condo's garbage bin. for me, the primary use has been to cut large objects down to size so i can discard them. they sell an assortment of blades that can cut through almost anything.

I look forward to picking mine up this weekend. My dad remodels homes and still uses a Rockwell saw from the early '80s.

Thanks, I've wanted one for awhile and it was still in stock locally.

The reciprocating blades fit all saws. You can pick up a general combination set of decent blades at about $2 per blade. Buy blades that say bimetal they will hold their edge longer and don't bend or break as easy as the cheap ones.

The sale is still on where available or you could buy and have it shipped if your local store is out of stock. I'm sure they are just clearing them out till they are all gone.
