within 90 days, totally unopened, you or recipient should have no problem returning for full refund w/receipt.

TY, Mr. C! I presume if he gives her a test run and then decides against it, Tarjay will lay a return fee on him or me? Pls advise.

My 2 pennies:

1. I called Acer tech support on Friday to ask what was the maximum RAM upgrade AO722-BZ454 could handle. Official answer was 8GB! Since someone here already correctly reported that there is space for 2 SODIMM modules, but only one area has a RAM module plug-in connector, I can only speculate that the maximum is probably 4GB unless you want to experiment with soldering the second connector in the allocated MB space.
2. I came to my Target this morning with intention to buy 2 of these. The guy at the counter first checked if there was any limit on how many could be sold to one person and finding out that there was no limit in the ad, offered remarkable idea: to make 2 transactions, because I could immediately use the 1st $50 gift card towards purchasing the second computer!!! Surely I accepted this smart advice. Theoretically if I needed only one unit I could've returned The first one along with the gift card from the second transaction using 90 days return policy on unopened unit (according to the same guy who offered to make 2 transactions)!

When buying you can ask for a gift receipt.

Yes! Target allows returns on netbooks and notebooks for 90 days with receipt, no restocking fee, opened or unopened. Tell the recpient to open it up and try it out! There will NOT be a restocking fee if they don't want it.

You can get 8gb dimms, but they cost more than this computer.

I am not sure if a single slot would accept 8GB SODIMM. I also own HP DM1z and its MB takes maximum 4GB + 4GB = 8GB. I am just trying to say that 4GB is a sure thing and shouldn't cost a fortune - there were some decent deals recently below $50 for a single 4GB SODIMM DDR3 RAM.

Of note:

If you ever loose your receipt for a Target buy....
If you used other than cash, you can take the card used and they can easily produce a new receipt.....

Isn't there a memory limit the os will be able to use.

Inventory Checker

Also, I was able to get in on the $5 ram deal from CompUSA. I had to call about the rebate mistake and they were kind enough to discount my price to give me the $5 AR price. Will keep you all informed how the upgrade goes once I receive it.

Mine has 2GB of RAM and 320GB Hitachi hard drive.
The thing I don't like:first is there is no activity LED for the hard disk. Second is the CPU seems underpowered.
The manager confirmed to me that I can return it within 90 days with receipt and without any restocking fee if no missing accessories, softwares,...

All this time, I never checked the hard drive. Mine is 320 GB, too. Definitely a nice bonus.

If the store checker says LIMITED AVAILABILITY, how likely is the store to have one in stock? I know at other B/M stores that usually means there are none, just wondering about Target.

Thanks so much!

LARPERs you all are LARPERs aren't you. Go upstairs and tell your mom I said hi.

AMD Dual Core Procss! Bad AMD CPU, i won't buy it though it is so cheap

Updating the graphics driver really made a difference. I can now watch Youtube in full 1080p. I can play World of Warcraft at 1366x768 resolution at lowest setting at 45-60 fps. I never expected that from a device like this.

I bought this to replace our Asus 1000HE. I like the Asus but it's far too underpowered the the small screen drives me crazy. I really want to like this Acer, but it gets much hotter than the old Asus. I don't like the feeling of hot air blowing on my leg while I surf the web. Still on the fence. Not sure if I'm going to return it or not. Anyone else getting a lot of heat out of theirs?

By the way: thanks go to the OP!

Great deal. Thanks OP. Got the last one in Apex, NC this morning.

BTW, I got these from Amazon to go with it:

Black External DVD Burner - $23 AR

Wireless mouse with tiny USB dongle - $7.50

I'm also going to try this. I know there are cheaper ones sometimes, but I don't want to wait to save 50 cents. I also see that I'll have to cut this down some.

Keyboard Cover - $1

My 9yr old daughter has been saving her pennies for close to 2 years now for a netbook. I finally gave her the go ahead on this and we were first in line of 6 people for this deal. Only to find out the store had like 30+ in stock.

Taught her 2 old sayings this morning.
1. A penny saved is a penny earned.
2. The early bird gets the worm.

Anyway, I and a bright eyed, smiling little girl thank you!

Oh yeah..
$249.00 Acer 11.6" + $50 gift card to use on next purchase.
+ $17.41 IL. Tax 8.75%
-----------------------
$266.41 Out the door

If I were thinking ahead, one could buy a second one using the $50 GC from the first. There were no limits on how many one could purchase. Within reason I suppose...

happy to make your daughter smile! hope she has lots of fun and gets lots of use from her new notebook!

Acer support recommended the same thing, and we were getting nowhere. Seems the "previous owner" had also decided to monkey with the Boot Restore, probably in the hopes of restoring it before returning it to the store. Well, Ray mucked it up and the level 1 tech couldn't figure it out.

However, I was messing around and just decided to delete the entered path at the "Enter=Submit" screen. When I rebooted and did Alt+F10 again, the correct path to the image had been defaulted back to. So, 30 minutes later, and it was as good as new out of the box.

Still updating and installing software, but plays Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube fine to screen, haven't tried TV via HDMI yet. Farmville (not for me) does have a hard time loading completely, but I'm hoping subsequent updates will help the flash hurt.

Thanks for your help, and anyone on the fence shouldn't hesitate if you need a light duty computer.

Just do system recovery to "restore to factory defaults". All Windows user setting will be erased. You do not need any disk.

1. Plug in the AC adapter and battery.
2. Turn the system on
3. Immediately, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10.
Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.
4. A screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery" should appear.
(Release ALT and stop tapping F10 at this point)
5. Choose "Restore system to factory default".

just clean format with a win7 home iso

Cascading the gift cards is no good... Receipt clearly states return
value is 199.00. However... Good deal in for one. Green OP.

None around my area even though Acer shows available when searching. Seems unlikely stores will be restocked, is that 'normal' for Target when they offer a no rainchecks product?

Hope y'all who snagged one enjoy it! Seems like alot of netbook for the money.

Not sure what you wanted, did you want to return one and keep the gift card and get a credit of$249.00

Well yeah.

thinking of buying this for the windows 7 license, is it possible to transfer that to my desktop (assuming I'll put ubuntu on the acer)?

Well yeah.

Why would you expect that, the GC was part of the purchase.
A return credit requires all be returned.
If you still had the GC, then it could be be returned, and you get back the $249.00 if it had been used then it is subtracted from the credit.
And you get $199.00 back

If a normally stocked item is OOS, on the spot they will give you the same % off another similar item.
Or a rain check, unless the ad prohibits it.
Not sure if a free included item such as the GC will be taken into consideration on a rain check,
it surely is an arguable point.

Items can be returned with no receipt, however you only get the lowest price an item sold for.
They surely would factor in the GC in that case.

Can anyonw who has it please report back what the "Windows Experience Index" ratings are for this laptop?
Start -> Computer -> System Properties -> Rating

Thanks

I think you mean "Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Rating" (at least that's where mine is on Vista, W7 may be different)

For future reference, if you search, you'll find that there are utilities out there that will allow you to reset the password. They work quite well....

Used an AMEX and target gift card of $50 each to bring the price down to ~$162 and got a $50 gift card, sweet deal for me. I wanted notebook but it is a netbook but no complain it will work for me. Thanks OP!

What happens to the GC if you return the Aspire, is it voided?

please read OP, ad said "limited quantites, no rainchecks"

On mine: CPU 2.8, RAM 4.9 (4GB 1333 stick, same as with the stock 2GB stick), Graphics 4.1, Gaming Graphics 5.5, Hard Disk 7.5 (Sandforce 64GB SSD, the stock 250GB Toshiba HDD was 5.9).

This really is an awesome deal for $200; the $50 gift card was spent on groceries, stuff we would have bought anyway.

RE:

Thats why I said this, so please reread what I said.
"Or a rain check, unless the ad prohibits it."

However....
Ad in had has no such wording

If unused, of course.
In this case, a gift is not a gift
