Way back in 1999, I started this thing called FatWallet.com - it wasn't much but a listing of coupon codes.
I had no idea that over the next 12 years I would see my hobby become a "real business" - all the way to being recognized as one of the best small businesses to work for the country.
Today, FatWallet moves on to it's next phase in life as it joins forces with Ebates.com and anycoupons.com to create Performance Marketing Brands, Inc.
As founder of FatWallet.com, I will continue on as a Strategic Advisor to this new company, and I am looking forward to the continued growth of the brand and website I started.
Rest assured that the FatWallet site and FatWallet forums will continue on. As part of a bigger company, we hope to have access to even better deals and higher levels of cash back in the months and years ahead.
The last 12 years have been beyond my imagination (and I've been known to dream big!).
A Sincere THANK YOU to EVERYONE that played a part of it, no matter how big, or how small.
September 09, 2011 08:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time Ebates Announces Creation of Performance Marketing Brands & Acquisition of FatWallet and AnyCoupons
Becomes Leading Independent Shopping Rewards Company
BELOIT, Wis. & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ebates, the leader in online Cash Back shopping, today announced the creation of a new company called Performance Marketing Brands, Inc. (PMB) to own and operate the worlds most rewarding shopper loyalty programs. PMB has acquired the savvy shopping and reward site FatWallet.com (www.fatwallet.com) and the coupon shopping site AnyCoupons.com (www.anycoupons.com) and united them with Ebates.com (www.ebates.com) to create one of the largest independent shopping rewards companies. In 2011, shoppers are expected to spend over $1.1 billion through PMBs sites, equivalent to a top 50 internet retailer in terms of gross merchandise volume according to data from the latest Internet Retailer Top 500 E-Retailer report.
We are happy to support this new combination and look forward to driving new levels of growth and innovation in the industry.
Ebates.com, FatWallet.com and AnyCoupons.com will continue to operate distinct websites, but common ownership will help give the sites and their users access to the most compelling rewards and best deals available anywhere. Retailers now will be able to advertise through a single partner to attract and retain the worlds savviest shoppers.
Today shoppers are bombarded with an overwhelming number of coupons, codes, deals and sales, said Tim Storm, founder of FatWallet and strategic advisor to Performance Marketing Brands . With Ebates.com, FatWallet and AnyCoupons.com we will help consumers cut through the clutter to get the very best offer every time they shop. We also expect to grow and innovate faster by combining the collective ideas of multiple industry pioneers.
In addition to providing our users a more rewarding shopping experience, as a combined company, we will give retailers a more effective way to attract new buyers, recapture lost customers, and make sure their best shoppers keep coming back, added Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Performance Marketing Brands. Over the coming months, we will be announcing exciting new ways for retailers to reach active shoppers and for consumers to be rewarded for all their shopping activities.
Ebates creation of Performance Marketing Brands and acquisition of FatWallet and AnyCoupons has been funded by August Capital, Cannan Partners, Foundation Capital and Silicon Valley Bank. The terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
The online reward and discount shopping space is growing rapidly and we felt the time is right to establish a clear leadership position by combining the best companies under Performance Marketing Brands, said David Hornik of August Capital. We are happy to support this new combination and look forward to driving new levels of growth and innovation in the industry.

So you bought eBates? They bought you? What's the deal? If you're now a strategic advisor I imagine that you were bought out. If so, congrats
Strategically advise them not to kill classic view, mmmkay?
I'm sure one or the other (most likely Cash Back) will be eliminated.
Neither one is being eliminated
Only time will tell. I've been through enough of these mergers over the years to know that things always change in a big way - most not for the better.

What changes if any are planned for FW? Another forum I frequently visit was bought out and changed significantly. So much so that the founder actually started a competing forum.
Ebates often has higher CashBack but I still use FW so I guess that's one benefit!

Congrats. Party in Beloit tonight!
[PS: Does this mean FW schwag/giveaways will have some other names too now? Please say no]

Nice! Congrats, and I hope things will only get better from here on out.
I joined FW back in high school! Man time flies.. I've used my "FW education" to its fullest extent. In my nearly 9 years and 6K posts here, I've learned so much - from buying my first car, to choosing my first credit cards, to knowing when a deal is actually HOT, to buying my umbrella policy - I value my college degree, but my FW education will take me far in life too.
Okay, enough of the nostalgia. Let's just say, thank YOU for dreaming up this thing called FatWallet. You know you've been a FW'er for too long when your friends/family don't even ask "What's a Fat Wallet?" anymore. Ha!
So does this affect our existing CashBack $ in any way? Even though I dont have much, do I redeem them?

Will both sites now offer the same merchants, or are they still separated (i.e., Best Buy)?
Consolidation is rarely a good thing for customers.

Congratulations on becoming affiliated with Ebates. I have been member for 4 or 5 years and visit the board daily. I love getting Cash Back for my purchases and have saved cash over the years. thank you
Tim finally took the money and ran. Hope the deal was worth selling out your baby.
Ask Mike Arrington at TechCrunch how things are likely to play out.

CashBack has been consistently dying year to year. Ebates has been cutting its employees. Fatwallet made the right decision to get out while there's still something left. Employees of Fatwallet will now really appreciate how they were treated since its all over now.

I'm really getting tired of SD so here's to hoping the merger makes fw more of a viable competition while still keeping its higher quality user base. Here's to fw being the Apple of deal sites.

Thank you. Someone finally said it. I hate to agree, because I always felt that the people on FatWallet were the most intelligent of any of the deal sites, but the activity has gone WAY down. Selling now is the perfect time to get out, before things get worse.
