According to Wikipedia, the IOTV worn by US military is equivalent to grade III-A...

Ballistic vest performance ratings..

I do like the fact that you can add trauma plates, but why dies it say that to get level 3protection you need the ceramic plate (sold separately)

Product Features
very comfortable
Compliance with NIJ Standard-0101.06
2 concealed pockets to carry ceramic plates one in the front and one in the back
The lightest vest for the armor coverage you get
Ceramic Plate will increase the Level of protection to III or IV (sold separately)

I don't even see anything about the construction. I wouldn't buy anything buy any soft body armor made from anything but 100% kevlar.

Because III is higher level of protection than IIIA.

IIIA covers most standard pistol calibers and is tested against 9mm and 44 magnum.

III is protection against non-armor piercing rifle, tested using 308

IV is armor penetrating rifle rounds with some a steel core. The test ammunition is the "M2" steel core 30-06.

I found a scanned NIJ letter saying the armor complied with 2005 Interim standards, but the vest is not listed on the NIJ approved equipment list. I believe this means it would not be covered by any NIJ grant to provide LE body armor. http://www.justnet.org/pages/BallisticCPL.aspx

None of the modern vests I've seen are 100% kevlar because it won't pass the NIJ compliance testing. There has to be some stiffer materials layered in on the back especially to prevent excessive deformation of the vest.

lol If i lived in a ghetto neighborhood i would totally buy this!

Well, better stock up. With the way things are going, the US will become 3rd world ghetto by 2020.

I have a .375 HH magnum. You'll need 2 of these vests.

i don't see any 4xl?

Say hello to Mr. Desert Eagle.....

Sure there are, the reason other material is popular is a question of comfort, not performance. Anyone with a need for body armor should familiarize themselves with the information here http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19912

tldr; NIJ armor standards suck, fbi armor stanards are much better.

What vest do I need for this? this?

I realize that the FWF forum gets a little rough sometimes, but this isn't necessary.

I wear this while playing Counter Strike Source. It gives me the edge of taking a few rounds before I return fire.
