I had the 3mbps dsl from at&t and paying $15 a month promotional rate for 1 yr. My 1 yr period just expired and I called.
I didn't even mention cancellation when the rep offered me 12mpbs u-verse for $25 a month with free self-install + Free after rebate wireless router and modem. The rebate is a $100 visa gift card.
I had called 1-800-288-2020.
12mbps u-verse - $25 a month modem + wireless router - Free after $100 visa gift card Self install kit - free, shipped via UPS 1 year contract (can be canceled within first 30 days)
NOTE: Others have mentioned that you'll get this price only if you have another AT&T service - e.g. land line, tv or cell phone. For everyone else, the cost will be $35 a month for 1 year.

I believe you also need to commit to 1 year of service? I don't suppose you can cancel your other AT&T service during this period?

At valencia ca, I called and got a promotional rate of $15/mo for 1yr. I was just lucky, I guess. There was an initial setup fee of $100, but no contract.

@OP, You say you didn't even mention cancellation when rep offered you 12mbps, I am curious why had you called ATT in the first place? to cancel or something else? Also which section in ATT are those reps available, that way I will try to choose same section when I call ATT.

I currently have AT&T month-to-month DSL 6mbps and I called to find out if there were any promotions for 12mpbs U-Verse Internet and the rep that talked to me offered me 12mpbs for $24.95 per month with a one-year contract, BUT the modem cost $100 and there was NO REBATE offered and there was a $36 ACTIVATION FEE. So this is a definite YMMV. How someone got it for $15 is incredible to me. I am also in Southern California, but I got no so deal offered to me.

Do you have any other services with AT&T? I have my home phone landline with them and DSL Internet only. I will try to call again tomorrow and talk to another rep. It would be great to get 12mpbs Internet for only $3.50 a month than I am paying now for 6mpbs.
Who exactly are you talking to to get this offer? Are you threatening to cancel and talking to retentions? When I called I talked to the new order department and told them I was an existing month-to-month DSL Internet customer and asked them if they had any U-Verse Internet promotions going on.

My 3.0 Mbps $14.95/mo ATT naked DSL for 12 months is ending. The current online teaser for Uverse is 6.0 Mbps $24.95/mo for 12 months, plus $100 for hardware (gateway with wireless router), $150 for installation (required in my neighborhood for some reason). I called Uverse sales, was offered 12.0 Mbps $29.95 for 12 months, FREE hardware AND install - NO REBATE! After the honeymoon, price goes up $18.05 per month, other deals should be out by then.

If you do a downloading/streaming a lot, you reach your 250 GB cap faster. You don't get a 'bigger' cap just because you sprung for the 12mbs. It just ATT way of protecting it bottom line.

-I've called and got offered Uverse 12Mb down 6Mb up (?) for $25 a month for existing customer. I told them that I will think about it. -I made 2nd call, same thing. But when I told them I want to switch my home phone to Uverse, they offered me $50 a month for both, plus free professional installation, equipment, activation. Later, they added a $100 VISA GC. The only downside is "due date" (for a guy) is more than 2 weeks away. -I'm in Michigan.

Sounds like standard offer to me.
I called. The only difference between the dial-in offer and online is that I get a $100 VISA GC to offset the cost of the gateway. Reward card was never offered for choosing Internet only. I bite. Keeping my finger crossed that they don't screw up my order.

How does AT&T's 12Mbps hold up against Comcast? I am sort of tempted. Got quote Uverse 200 HD channels, TV DVR, 12 Mbps fiberoptic for $93 a month

I don't think this is a YMMV, I was at at&t store to ask about my iPhone activation and ended up asking about internet service. They showed me the actual printout for different tiers (3mbps/6/12/18...Mbps). Basically if you're a current att customer (landline/wireless/uverse TV) and do not currently have att for internet, you can get the 12Mbps for $24.95/mo, 1 yr contract, free modem after rebate and no activation fee (current att customer for other product line). U'll get uverse internet if it's available in your address OR same speed thru their DSL. And yes, you can cancel service within 30 days if ure not satisfied.

the $24.95 rates are merely a loss leader that locks you into a 12 month contract.....We use 600GB/mo @ ATT, well over the 150/250 data caps; Now add $10 for every 50GB over the cap - Not such a good deal now, is it? I'm just waiting for the class action lawsuit that proves that ATT's measurement methods are completely inaccurate.....
I'd rather drink bleach than suggest Road Runner @ time warner, but it might be the only unlimited high speed offering in Akron, Ohio.......

You will get a bundled discount of $5 if you are an existing AT&T customer. You mentioned about iPhone so you are likely their wireless customer. AFAIK, traditional landline phone does not qualifies for the bundled discount.
For some reasons, if I order online (add DSL to landline phone), the highest speed they offered is 3Mbps (with an uplink of 512kbps). There is a wireless gateway free after rebate but the model is never mentioned. Making me suspect that it is not really U-Verse internet.

Don't forget about the $4 monthly fee they will fail to mention for equipment. I picked up the 18/mbps for $29.95, but it took a call to retentions.

Modem free after rebate.
$35 activation fee (couldn't waive it)
One year commit ($150 ETF)
Only have dry loop DSL as my only AT&T service.

For those of you who have seen this 'free modem + wireless router after rebate', can you describe it?
The reason I asked is because I've had U-verse for almost two years and the 'modem + wireless router' is one giant U-verse proprietary box that I neither paid for in the beginning, or paid monthly for. I've always just assumed that I will return this to AT&T if I stopped being a U-verse subscriber, as this would be of no use to anyone not using a U-verse service.

Green for OP. If I wasn't such a cheap bastard, I'd jump on this. (I'm happy with the $15 slow service. ) I think I've had it over a year now and they haven't changed my price. If they do, I'll give this a shot.

You are talking about the wireless gateway that is used for tv and internet. I have this, and received no new equipment, however I was charger $4 on my bill.
BTW, when i ordered, i specifically asked if I would be charged any additional equipment fee, and they told me "no".

Then you are getting the IP-DSLAM instead of U-Verse VSDL. Check if your upload speed is over 768kbps. Traditional U-Verse should have 1+Mbps upload.
Those of you who sign up via this offer. Make sure you call 1-800-288-2020 again after activation to verify your offer. I found out that their system shows that my monthly fee is $5 higher than what I signed up.

Thank you for that link. I am not aware that U-verse is offering what is basically two completely different technologies!

The deal might be good and worth a green but AT&T as a company sucks royally. I decided to give 'em a chance last year with the $19.95 dry loop DSL promotion. I had to call almost every month. And a couple of days back when I switch to RR and called them to cancel, they are now claiming that I have a contract till Nov. I never signed a contract even in August when I signed up and even if I did have a contact, I am beyond a year but the reps would not budge. They said they can process the cancellation and then I have to call back when I get the ETF. I decided to get the line cancelled and will fight their ETF but just a warning to fellow FWers as to AT&T antics on making you part with your hard earned money.
I recommend saving ALL pages/offers/confirmations etc. to ensure you have enough paperwork in case you have to fight with 'em.
I will NEVER (yes I know never say never) sign up with AT&T for anything even if its FREE.

I know AT&T like to play bait & switch. That's why I suggest everyone who signed up via phone to call and verify. When I sign up over the phone, there is no paper trail. It is your word against theirs. When you noticed something wrong, it will likely past the 30 days window.

Checked this deal and it does work.
Details bellow:
I had a 6Mbs DSL service for $25/mo and phone line with ATT for $40/mo.
Called the number in first post and got 12Mbs U-verse Inet for $25 and full phone service for $35. Total $59.95/mo +tax
1 year contract. Can cancel within first 30 days with no charges.
Free equipment, choose a self install kit.
Only charge will be $36 activation fee, but will get a $100 gift card in the mail.
So double my speed and pay a few bucks less per month.

I cancelled my ATT service 3 weeks ago, tried to bargain for a the same price after 1yr, but no go, so i cancel service. I won't able to subscribe for at least one month, so i am using dslextreme as my isp with ATT line to get internet now. For the people try to cancel cable then get dsl, dsl is lot slower than cable, at least in my TW area, also consider when u want to switch back to TW, they may request $175 installation fee. I don't surprise if they charge, because they charge me $45 to downgrade the TV from 1 level higher than basic to basic without box.
