Just called and they are offering me 12Mbps for $24.95/mo for 12 months, free modem (no rebate necessary), and activation fee of $36 waived, because I asked nicely. I'm going to end up paying $5 more/mo. and getting 4x the speed.

Ordered the same package, but the first bill is $183.75
1. $100 for the modem 2. $36 for activation 3. -$13.05 credit for previous DSL 4. $48 for U-verse Internet MAX 5. $12.80 pro rated for Internet MAX
www.speedtest.net shows 10.50 Mbps. The neighbor down the block ordered the same service and topped out at 8Mbps. Service ordered in San Francisco, CA 94122
They told me they will give the following rebates:
1. -$100 for modem 2. -$36 for activation 3. -$100 for new customer to U-verse
Rebates can be claimed after 30 days of service.

Called in and asked if they could do anything for me on my current 12Mbps U-Verse (internet only). I was paying $45/mo. + $4 equipment fee. They offered $5 a month off for 6 months. I declined the offer, they went to $10. I declined again. When they offered $15 off a month for 6 months, I took it. Not as good as the OP, but I'm happy with the service and changing providers is a pain for me. Thanks for the suggestion to call and get a better deal!

AT&T rep said that if I switched to U-Verse from regular DSL that I may not be able to switch back to standard DSL later on. The reason given was that AT&T is trying to covert everyone to U-Verse in my area. Has anyone else been told this?
Also I was told that you can't have DSL and U-verse at the same address. I mention this because it could possibly be a consideration for someone who has a room mate or a tenant who has their own internet account.

It worked for me. I currently have 6 Mbps DSL and then signed up for 12 Mbps U-verse internet only. $24.95/mo for 12 months. Afterwards it is $43/mo. $100 for modem, but reimbursed with $100 Visa gift card. $36 activation fee is waved since we have an AT&T account already. No installation; I am getting the self-install kit which uses a wireless connection AT&T. I thought someone from AT&T would have to come over to install a fiber optic line but that's not so. I guess the fiber optic part is only on AT&T's backbone.

It's on their website somewhere that in certain areas they are switching out dsl for u-verse. You will have an opportunity to switch to u-verse, but at a high rate or simply cancel.

They did replace my entire outside phone box. I'm not sure what exactly they did, but I guess it's possible that new box isn't DSL compatible.
Overall pleased - speeds have been fast as promised with 0 drops or problems after ~1 year

I went from DSL to Uverse back to DSL. The wires to the house were the same for both, but were different inside. In other words, I could only have one or the other.

Outside Splitter, way back from pac bell install when they first served my area. From 6 mbps dsl to 12 mb uverse (only option)
Called 877 999 0788. $25/month. Required (but free) professional installation. Received free (manager approval) installation since it was the ONLY option for me. $100 VISA rebate on router.
Tech came out, plugged in router, few clicks, left. Didn't need to do anything due to already being set up properly.
9.5 mbps download. Tech made a remark about a high capacitance in the line due to distance.

This seems to be correct. It is a bundle when you choose your bundled options..
I am considering uverse (have DirecTV and ATT for Phone/Internet right now). It is a good deal during the promo period but not after.. Can anyone speak to renewal options after the promo period to reduce the monthly cost? Thanks in advance.

I called billing to adjust my 12mbps plan price to $30, the rep mentioned that if you add inside wiring plan ($5 per month) you get $25 gift card. I just added it recently as a tech had to come out. She said service needs to be active for 30 days.

-Not sure if I'm the last person whom discovered about this. I'm having Uverse Internet and Voice w/ 250 minutes. I found out that any time I called a non-Uverse number, even if it's local number, I got slapped by 5 cents a minute. The only way to get away is sign up for the unlimited minutes, which cost about $35 a month. It may sound cheap to some of you, but I had traditional phone with unlimited local call for only $17 / month. Not to mention I did not have to worry about Internet up to make phone calls. -I'm thinking about Magic Jack. Seek advice on this.

I pay 30 bucks for 12 Mbps but got hit with activation fee when I moved. This is the first time I got an activation fee on the invoice and att denies this is the first time. They say I've had to pay it in the past but I checked and they are lying. But I'd stick with att since their service is pretty consistent. I'll never go with Comcast. No contract. Donno if this is a 6 mo pricing either (likely is).

Called ATT up after i received a letter from them. They have always provided excellent service along with great customer service to me.
When i called up, i told them that i received a letter saying i needed to switch to ATT Uverse, I was already paying 25.00 for DSL 3 MB.
They offered me 12 MB line for the same price so i said hey sure sign me up.
Lady i talked to was extremely friendly and went above and beyond helping me out understand what was going to happen. Even gave me free installation. Basically free everything

Got a better deal by calling in too (local AT&T outfit was useless). $90/month for U300+whole home DVR+12MBPS DL speed. Had to schmooze the guy on the phone a bit to get it that low and kept bringing up the Direct TV Deal going on, but eventually he got me cheaper than I was going to pay on the website, and upgraded from U200 to U300.

Just spoke to a friendly rep and was offered this 12mbps for $25/mo (with 1-year contract) deal as a new ustomer. The first bill will have the $100 modem and $36 activation fees. I was told the $100 gift card would take about 2 months after installation to receive. I'm in San Francisco, CA. The only other ATT service I have is Wireless.

Ended up having to cancel because, contrary to the sales rep's info, my location was over 12,000 ft away from the nearest server which meant I was limited to around 1.2mbps or about a tenth of my promised speed. I'm hoping there will be fees associated with this cancellation.

Did you ask for retentions? The regular reps wont give you anything, the retentions guys will try to hook you. Just mention that you got an offer from your cable company and want to know if they will match ($24.99 or something like that).

I have similar experienced and ended up canceling. Good thing is they have risk free trial for 30 days. Lack of paper trial is the main reason that I decided to cancel. The only difference is that they offer $100 rebate for people sign up over the phone. But you maybe eligible for cashbacks by signing up online through att.com.

AT&T cap their usage each month at 50GB guys. I was going to get this but there's no point with the fast internet if they get capped at 50GB. Just like your data plan with smart phones. I got the 6Mbps since they came out for $30 a month and I use the first old modem when DSL was available to AT&T. They could not track my usage using the old modem. Keep it in mind guys that AT&T does cap it. Too bad there's no cable service in my area and only AT&T service here. No choice for me. I think they charge extra but not sure how much.

As an at&t technician I spoke to numerous times during out 6 month trek to get service at a new address said: since DSL is part of POTS, it is much more heavily regulated by state and federal laws (including penalties for not fixing service issues). U-verse has much less regulation, hence the push. Same reason Verizon pushes FIOS so strongly. As for DSL an Uverse DSL at the same time, there is no technical reason you could not do this if you still have a POTS line as the DSL could be offered via the POTS line and Uverse DSL over another line -- of course you may need multiple lines wired in your home and to the telephone company box.

While this was announced a while ago, they also indicated that it would not be implemented until you could see your data use on your account page -- I still do not... and I think I sometimes go over this cap due to Netflix.
Of course, since at&t still has different regional separate systems (from the regional Bell days), some areas of the country might have implemented this already.

I went over the 150GB limit with DSL and they billed me accordingly. It's easy to go over 150GB per month by watching a lot of videos.

i don't have att internet, but re: bait and switch -
i had att long distance service years ago. they unilaterally signed me up for an international plan charging me several bucks a month plus taxes. i never asked for the plan, never authorized it, never even knew such a plan existed until they suddenly charged me for it. i called several times and each time they'd say ok we'll take it off, but never did. i kept calling and fighting them on it, and a rep finally said to me, we'll knock off half the $90 that has accrued. WHAT? i fought them and fought them, they would put me on long holds, say they're a transferring to a manager, then hang up on me. after months of games i finally told em i was filing a complaint with the attorney general's office. that's when they stopped charging me. and they stopped showing this fake balance owed on my bill. but then about 6 months later i got a bill from a collection agency. they sold the FALSE CHARGES to a collection company and put it on my credit report. i have fought it for 7 years. it is finally disappearing.
before the landline thing, att did a similar thing with me on usage minutes on a cell phone. i had to fight them on that too and get a supervisor, threaten AG action and that time they corrected it.
i eventually closed out both accounts with ATT. i will never do business with them again. for those of you that make changes/cancellations - make sure you get representative names and times, and make sure you get things in writing. or you're putting yourself at risk of ATT pulling something shady.

I have a question. I joined Netflix and they send their movies by streaming. I have AT&T DSL service so I am limited with the datacap being 150G. About how many movies would that allow me to watch per month and not go over the datacap on my account? How many G is a typical 90-minute movie?

I have this exact issue, although I wasn't even signed up for the 29.95 plan in the beginning. I've been duped and have been paying $48 per month for 4 months, and AT&T is refusing any credit whatsoever. Totally deceptive practice. I guess it's time to cut my losses and ask for retentions, but I have a feeling that they'll shaft me once more with the cancellation charges.

I called and ordered the 12 Mbps U-verse today. I am getting it for 24.95 per month on a one year contract. The 2wire gateway is 100 dollars but I get a 100 rebate and they also waved the $36 activation fee. If you are ordering u-verse, just say that you are coming from Comcast and they will give you this deal. This is for the San Jose, CA area.

Let me clarify, uverse name brand can apply to both ADSL and VDSL services (POTS and fiber). When the reps say "you can't go back to DSL" he means the name branding is going away. Uverse is is the new name for both adsl and vdsl. As for self installs, 90% of them will fail. WHy? Becuase of something called bridge tap (google it if you don't know what it is) and old phone lines. Not to mention the number of possible outside line issues. DSL will work fine for the most part with bridge tap in home phone lines but not VDSL. It all has to do with the sync rate. higher sync rate means higher grade of wires and no bridge tap. So what happens when att sends a tech out to fix your problem? they slap on a $75 install assist fee and $55 line fee if you need new lines. How do you know if you are getting the ADSL or VDSL signal? Ask for the modem model. 2wire 3000 series are all VDSL (3600, 3800, 3801). ADSL also caps out around 12megs. 18 and 24 megs are VDSL only. Only way your self install will work is if Uverse was installed in your house/apt before and all lines and connections are still there. Otherwise, have a tech install your service. Order TV and internet and get the free install. Cancel the tv portion later. And quit bitc.h.ing about 250gigs0 maximums. I don't even come close to 250gigs a month and i download torrents and stream Netflix all day long. Thats about 50 HD movies at 5 gigs per movie.
