NJ has it's own website for free state filing and it's easy enough to punch in my info there.
Good price! Can someone confirm rather this version comes with State or not?? On the product comparison page, it said it comes with State??
Thanks,
This version does NOT come with the state software. Deluxe + state is $36 on Amazon.COM
Amazon currently has their "Gold Box Deal of the Day" for the software linked above. H&R Block at Home Deluxe 2011 +State is now $19.99. Go here after you've signed onto your Amazon account: GOLD BOX LINK
Does this version require extra payment for state e-filing? (19.95) Some of the reviews indicate that. It sounds like you can print the state return and mail it for no extra charge though.

assimskys said: Hi all,
Last year my Dad got a ltr from IRS telling him that they made an error on entering his "EFiled" Federal return and they owed him $250!! He got a check from them 2 weeks later, with no explaination as to what the error was!
2 weeks later he got another letter saying that they made an "error" on his tax return and he now OWED them $250.00!
He called and was told that when the person was typing in his tax return into the system (WHAT -- it was EFiled & they TYPED it in anyway??), they made a mistake in typing! Yes that is correct, that was what he was told!!
So do you really have your return go into the IRS electronically and then retyped manually?? Who the H--l knows at this point!!
Anyway, It is a mandate of the IRS that they only allow 5 Federal return to be Efiled, but does that mean per computer or what?? Does anyone know THAT answer??
I read about the maximum of 5 requirement somewhere but it appeared to be a limit on the number of efiles that can be bundled into consumer-based tax return software. For some reason, they don't want the average user gettting a $20 piece of tax software and opening up shop to do 100 returns. For that, you need to get certified and purchase a business version of the software. They don't seem to mind you doing yours and a few others though.
BTW, your story about the efiled returns being retyped is unbelievable but I guess not inconceivable. I had always assmed that even if you submitted a typed paper return, they would do OCR on it to eliminate errors associated with entering the data by hand but who knows.

Yes, they charge extra for state e-file except in New York.

Thanks. It looks like using this version will be significantly cheaper than the online version for Fed & state.

In for the Amazon download today. Not sure abou the state e-filing, but there usually ends up being some kind of reason I can't e-file in PA anyway. I know this is guaranteed to get me red here at FW, but I hate filling out rebates. It feels like a such a chore. So, if I can get the same price w/o a rebate, count me in.
I realized approximately 2 seconds after buying w/ AMEX that Chase is offering 5% back on Amazon purcahses for 3 months. Also found an email from Discover offering $5 on $50 at Amazon. Not sure if that's targeted.

I usually owe the state so my state filing is usually delayed, first class postage and the cost of printing my state rebate form(s).

By the end of the month the Glenn Reeves Excel spreadsheet should come out at http://home.mchsi.com/~taxcalculator/ It is free (well, donations accepted) - I have used this for the past decade now. Generally you want to wait closer to April as all the bugs are worked out, but it does a great job of automatically calculating tax owed, as well as a tool for tax planning and determining one's "real" marginal rate when phaseouts such as the Lifelong Learning Credit, itemized deductions, EIC, etc. come into play (which are often higher than the actual marginal tax rate).

I went for TT Home & Business for $15.95. I'll post the results of purchase as soon as I get notification of download info. Thanks to the OP for the info, and the other posters for their updates.

I bought the 2012 Quicken Premier from him. Within 10 minutes of paying, I got an email with the download instruction. No problems! Debating whether or not to get the TT Deluxe. I like having the ability to update my taxes from work and with the TT online version i can access it anywhere.

Being able to install and use the software does not prove anything about the legitimacy of that seller.

yes you are correct. I should have said the item arrived as described. Ill also add I personally dont know anyway to tell if its legal or a copy. But Turbo Tax allowed me to update the files so I hope it ok.

I too was able to download TT Home & Business from the supplied link, and then update the installation. HOWEVER, after reading through some of the Help files, I am now concerned that TT will require an additional fee to either print the return or efile it. I have emailed the seller to try to get the installation code that TT ordinarily provides via email upon payment. Will post results. For now, I advise proceeding with caution.

That was my concern as well and why I steered far clear of this "deal". There is literally nothing worse than having your tax info compromised, especially if you are giving account info for banks/stocks/retirement funds, etc. Scary, scary stuff man!

So far everything looks good on the TT deal. Computers scanned ok with McAfee, Malwarebytes, AdAware, and AVG2012. Tax files will print. Still don't know for sure if they will efile for free as promised. BTW, I NEVER keep my tax file on my hard drive, but always on a removeable flash drive instead.
Anyone have any additional advice for those of us who installed the "bargain" version, so that we don't live to regret it??? Thanks!

Thanks!I purchased and installed the Quicken Deluxe 2012 and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I'm convinced these are clean downloadable versions of Intuit software. Whether they're being distributed with the blessing of Intuit is another question.

In fact, I would trust a demonoid source being virus-free more than a site like the one above.. For something like tax, I would rather spend some extra $ to get a legal copy

Personally, I would never knowingly purchase illegal software. If I was naive in taking the suggestion for a low cost for a good product from our trusted FW website, then mea culpa. Like many others here, last year I got a free copy of H&R Block as a result of a forum posting, and I am certain that it was legitimate. If my assumption that this year's posting for TT was also legitimate is incorrect, I would very much appreciate knowing the basis for that assertion, and some recommendations for possible suitable courses of action.

In the past, I've bought boxed copies of TurboTax Deluxe and TurboTax Business at impossibly low prices from sellers I've never heard of and never had any trouble using, updating, or e-filing with them. The thing that gives me pause on this sell.com deal is the downloadable part. I guess we know it installs and updates. If we knew it e-filed I'd probably jump in too, but for now, I wait.

I followed the Turbo Tax link under additional resources, and it took me to the TurboTax website. They're free to start, but you have to buy them to file. What did I do wrong?

Make sure to click on the "Start for Free" button for the "Free Edition", not the "Deluxe Edition", which is shown by default. I have not tried it myself, but think that might be your problem.
I switched from TT to HR-TC a few years back when my taxes got complicated(SEx2 and some other twisted little factors), and my calculations were over $400 different from TTs. HR-TC did the numbers the same way I did, And I've been happy with TC since.
I also like that TC lets me switch back and forth between their sheet and the physical forms.

Still waiting for some initial price drops of TurboTax on Amazon or something other than Costco/AAFES.. We gotta be getting close here.
Actually, I think I'll try that sell.com link for $12.. What the heck, a few other people had good luck with him.
--- EDIT ---
So the guy from sell.com just refunded my money saying it is no longer available.. I'd be willing to bet he was selling pirated copies or something.. Good for him for refunding my money, but..

For folks who got the free software (H&R Block Deluxe) with free state e-file, are we allowed to share? The ones we buy from store allows us to do upto 5 free federal e-file which I know people share the software and do the free federal e-file. With the free software that was given to specific people, does it come with just one free e-file. If you guys think that is crossing the ethical line then I would not even consider it. TIA

He replied to me, sorry can't help when asked a clarifying question on the downloadable copies not having been modified ! So I am staying away ... probably he got frightened with sudden barrage of probing questions from many here ?
No telling what malware it may also install or what spying it may do even long after you file. Hard to know, once you open doors to unknown software. Very easy to get tempted thinking many others downloaded the same -- all those who did probably risked it for next to nothing ...
