There weren't a lot of restrictions, but if it follows from the past sales:

Any commercial produced DVD with original case and artwork that is presentable (looks playable) except Adult titles (no porn) and no burned discs.
Some BB have required a UPC code on the case for it to be eligible to trade in

Music Blurays were excluded from purchase

Limit 5 trade in per visit per customer. Some stores are harder on this rule and read it 5 DVD per day rather than technically per visit. it's one
discount per item and you can't stack multiple coupon to one item.

The details of the program vary a bit at each store. Some require you bring your DVD to Customer Service and get a trade in certificate which they
will attach to a receipt and those should not be separated allowing you to trade in and come back later if you aren't ready to buy that day.
Some stores tell you to leave the DVD at Service desk, get your Blurays and check out.
Some stores give you the certificate or printout and let you check out at regular registers.
Some stores require you to do the trade in and purchase simultaneously at the Customer Service Desk (i.e. you must purchase at the same time as the trade)

I may have to try this. I'd pick up The Departed for $5, although I now dread the customer service desk at Best Buy.

Fine print from BB paper ad:

Bring in your original DVD (no burned copies accepted) with the original case to Customer Service and receive a $5-off coupon valid on any Blu-ray movie priced $9.99 and up. Excludes Blu-ray music titles. See a Customer Specialist or visit BestBuy.com/upgradeandsave for more details about the Upgrade & Save promotion. Limit 5 coupons per trip. A recycling receipt must accompany the coupon at time of redemption. Once you have received your coupon, if you do not find a Blu-ray, you are unable to get your turned-in DVD back. Not valid with any other discount or package. Markdown taken from original price. Your original DVD must have been commercially packed and with the original case. Adult content DVDs not accepted. Not valid with any other offer. Valid on in-stock Blu-ray movies only. No cash value. Offer valid 1/8/12 - 1/28/12.

any moviecash deals to combine with this?

If it's any Bluray, then any selection with MovieCash should be eligible. I don't know what's out there right now, but I think I remember
Mission Impossible having some tickets available.

Noted that some of the Disney's also had attached MC

Thanks! Specifically something @ $10 price point for best ROI!

Found a pretty good updated list in this thread. It looks like it's kept up to date with current and expired deals

Movie Cash Current Offers

Does anyone know if B est Buy will do this with 3D Blu Rays?

Great find! I'd completely stopped buying dvds and only went to the dollar theater to see movies (the local dollar theater is actually pretty nice). Ever since the movie industry started getting desperate and including MovieCash for just about movie, my Blu-Ray collection and my moving watching has increased exponentially. You can't beat getting a Blu-Ray and seeing a first run movie for $8-12.

Do they exchange only one BluRay per DVD, or they allow, say, a BluRay worth $20 for 4 DVDs?

Update quick summary with the fine print on my copy of BB paper flyer. The URL link mentioned in the fine print doesn't seem to go anywhere though.

I mailed in a burnt copy of a DVD by accident - they sent it back with an FBI dude

totally not cool

They're not just gonna give you a free movie, dude. Everyone would buy out their local pawn shop's stock of 50 cent dvds and go to town building a library of movies if they were.

Currently each Mission Impossible is $9.99 on bestbuy.com and if that price does not change on Sunday you'll be able to get them for $5 each + the movie cash.

I don't see why not again assuming that all Blurays except Music are actually included as the ad implies.

One coupon per item. No stacking.

Mailed a DVD to where? Best Buy has never done this program online that I know of.

One bump since the sale will hopefully begin in earnest Sunday morning. Not much else to add except there is something listed at the Upgrade and Save site,
but many of the items specifically included in the ad are missing so it's certainly not a complete list.

There is a bit of concern with the first whole ad scans that on the back page in the fine print at the bottom a new comment has been seen that wasn't visible in the earlier scans or mentioned by those who had seen the ad.

"...any Blu-ray $9.99 and up. Choose from over 135 titles. Visit http://www.bestbuy.com/upgradeandsave for a complete list of Blu-ray movies and full details"

I'll update the OP as necessary.

I guess no surprise the early reports are a mess. Many stores were caught unaware of the promotion beginning and aren't ready. Many stores are caught in the
same confusion as the rest of us from contradicting information in the ads themselves. If you are checking out with a disc in the ad, make sure to grab a flyer at
the front door to make sure you get the correct price. If you are trying to buy a disc not in the ad, but otherwise seems to meet criteria and the manager won't
budge have them call Corporate and clarify the deal. There still has not been a confirmation of whether there will be a restricted list or not, but right now even
if there will be a list the website link only has about 1/3 of the 135+ titles mentioned in one of the fine print. The actual coupon itself doesn't mentioned a list
so Luck to everyone who ventures out today

So far several folks have reported that corporate has given the OK to over-ride the coupons since the computer isn't accepting their own coupons for anything yet.
Many of the senior clerks are entering the coupons in teh same way as Manufacturers Coupons since BB computer never recognize the scan bar on those.

EDIT: reports after 3pm EST seem to be showing improvement at the Point of Service and coupons seem to be working better now without having to over-ride every transaction. Many more reports showing up that the selection may not be restricted to any list.

Here's how my transaction happened:
Sunday I went to the store to see the inventory they had. Decided that I had 3 DVDs to "upgrade" to Blu-ray:
Scary Movie 2 (Priced at $14.99...COUPON VALID)
Varsity Blues (Price at $9.99, but rang up for $7.99...SO NO COUPON USED)
The Blind Side (Priced at $14.99, but on sale for $9.99...SO NO COUPON USED)

Took my 3 DVDs today to the Customer Service desk. Asked the rep if I could leave these here and see if they were on the shelf. She told me yes, but they had to be $9.99 or higher and NOT ON SALE.

Found all 3 movies and went back to the desk. She rang them up $30 and some change (not a huge deal, but I used my gift card balance anyway) and gave me the other 2 $5 coupons to used later in the month. She told me, specifically, that in order to use these coupons you have to make sure you have this "recycle receipt". Otherwise, they aren't valid and again can't be used on any sale items.

They ought to call this Sale the Wild Card Sale -- bring your DVD in and some deal may happen. All I can say is plenty of folks have gotten any $9.99+ Bluray regardless of sale status.
2nd day reports have been much more positive in that coupons are ringing up without over-rides and most Blurays above 9.99 are registering fine.

dag, that kills it for me alone. then combine their own utter lack of consistency, arbitrary or other otherwise revenue retention upsell rules and I'll pass go. thanks for the info.

It appears that most of the titles that the $5 off would be valid on are cheap enough elsewhere to make it not worth it. You are better off getting the various Blu Rays from Amazon, Wal-Mart, or Barnes & Noble and not messing with the trade-in as the final price will come out nearly the same.

Since most every Bluray in Best Buy is $5 off according to most stores, I'm not sure I agree.

I may have to try this. I'd pick up The Departed for $5, although I now dread the customer service desk at Best Buy.

well today i went and traded in the last 5 of my dvds had 25 coupons in hand... ... ran to target to check a couple prices.. blind side blu ray is $8.. bambi diamond edition was priced 19.99 instead of 29.99... went back to best buy had all blu rays in hand got to line at the customer service desk (where returns were done for a faster checkout).. no problems with anything until i come to the price match purchase... guy said i needed the ad... asked him if he had heard of calling to get the price gave me a hard time.. checked online price was more online than in store.. told him its in store in the same mall 3 stores down.. still said no.. finally told him to call.. he called phone rang 4 times (it was on speaker) then he hung up and said no ones answering... by this point there were 7 other people in line, 4 associates sitting around not doing anything and i could tell he was getting frustrated.. all he had to do was get on the phone and ask.. so i proceeded to tell him i wanted to return all the other blu rays then sat there while the line got longer, got all my money back and walked out with my coupons in hand... (he had togo in the back and print more coupons to give back to me cause i wasnt leaving without my 20 other coupoons) that best buy has lost any and all busines i wouldve given it from this point on
