Hate to say it but Discounts do not qualify as a contract change event. Just like how they can go up they can go down too.

TheBeer said: Hate to say it but Discounts do not qualify as a contract change event. Just like how they can go up they can go down too. Baloney. Here are Sprint's Terms and Conditions: --- We may change any part of the Agreement at any time, including, but not limited to, rates, charges, how we calculate charges, discounts, coverage, technologies used to provide services, or your terms of Service. We will provide you notice of material changes—and we may provide you notice of non-material changes—in a manner consistent with this Agreement (see "Providing Notice To Each Other Under The Agreement" section). If a change we make to the Agreement is material and has a material adverse effect on Services under your Term Commitment, you may terminate each line of Service materially affected without incurring an Early Termination Fee... ---
Thus, any change in discount, or any change in the way charges are added, triggers the ETF-free clause.
Frankly, I am amazed at how many Sprint employees/shills never bother to actually read Sprint's own Terms and Conditions, but instead mindlessly parrot whatever their supervisors tell them.

I hope this is true, I would love to get out of my contract on the second line that the discount is no longer applying to. I added a bunch of family members when they used to take the discount off of the 19.99 add a line. They changed that policy a while back, I called to complain saying I would never had added those lines and I was able to get them to give me a monthly credit. But that did not last long and I got tired of calling every month to get this credit back. I never actually tried to cancel with the ETF.

You may also want to check your bill this month for a new charge!
They are charging $1.99 PER LINE for "Receive a Detailed Bill" I just called and had this removed from my account. I was also told when I asked what other suprises they had coming about the $19.99 charge for the second line. My rep said the $19.99 charge is in ADDITION TO my current $129.99 base family plan rate (She could be wrong, she is a Sprint CS Rep)

I still receive paper bills and had call detail before. Starting Jan. 2012 they are charging $1.99 per line for this service. I saw it on my online account and called to have it removed.

While it would be nice to do this, is there really a cheaper option with decent coverage? My wife and I both use our smartphones to the max and we have their $129 family plan (plus fees/taxes comes out to $150ish). I've looked at MetroPCS and TMobile and they don't have coverage where we need it.
Can you just get the early termination fee waved and NOT cancel your line (so if something does come up then I'm good?)

Sure. This is canceling your contract, not your entire service.

Has anyone been able to get Sprint to give recurring discounts anymore? I'm out of contract, called yesterday and they wouldn't do anything about an expired $20 credit I've enjoyed for the last 2 years.

I just spoke to a rep, called to fix some other problems with my account, and asked about it. She said it applied to people with multiple plans on their account. For instance, if you have 5 lines, and need a 6th, they have to add another plan to handle the 6th line. Well, that other plan would not get a discount.

OK, this looks interesting. One question though...
If you recently upgraded to a new phone, and are under a new contract... When you cancel your contract are you eligible for another phone with an extension of your contract? Or would I still have to wait another 2yr for an upgraded handset? Thanks.

I think this change OP is talking about is different. Didn't the line discount change a long time ago? I'm actually on a friends account with 8 lines (yes, 8!!!). Back about a year ago, the 27% discount was taken off the primary AND the additional (19.99) line. Now, it's only taken off of the primary. Yea, we ended up paying more, but it's still a cheaper option than anywhere else. BUT, this change happened a long time ago. If this is for a secondary plan, that makes more sense since the OP mentioned an example that is already in place.
One thing I'm wondering is, can you complain to get ETF waived and that push you to be eligible for upgrade pricing. Pretty much complain to get out and then jump right back into a new one to get a new phone at cheaper price.

Thanks OP. Now out of my Sprint contract that I shared with four other Fraternity brothers. I will continue to use Sprint service as long as it's convenient. But, it's only a matter of time before I find an exciting new phone with a lower monthly bill.

Yall don't know wtf you're talking about. Lines 3-5 of a family plan got any discount nerfed about two years ago, line #2 still got the discount, now they're getting rid of that. Personally I got tired of the games and switched to T-Mobile no-contract $30/month for unlimited text and 5gb of 4g data and roll with free VOIP from Groove IP.

I called and received a one time bill credit of $86 dollars. I was also told that the billing will now be split up the first line being $110, our second one being $19. The Second line is NOT eligible for our corporate discount HOWEVER since my over all cost to lose in this would be about 86 dollars, they'd credit me that to stay. I did have the option to leave EFT free. To keep my service WITHOUT the contract was not an option. I couldn't continue with Sprint without agreeing to my terms of service which I was clearly calling to say I disagree with and want my EFT fee waived for all lines. So my options were A. Them make up the difference in a one time credit. or B. Me leave EFT free. I hope this helps someone, as this was what my CS rep gave me. (The supervisor actually.) I did call and choose the option of canceling service.

called Sprint just now. I have everything data plan $129.99 (2 smartphones) + $19.99 for 3rd line (regular phone) 129.99 = 110 + 19.99 is correct in math but since the discount applies to the smaller amount, I'm looking at $5.74 increase. (I've been getting the discount on $129.99, but not on the 3rd one.)
Rep said since I had the plan from 2010, I'm not effected on this change, it is only for the customers who signed up in 2011.. I asked them if there's any document showing this sign-up date related change but they couldn't provide any. I have a feeling that they are just trying to adjust the amount on my next bill to defend the ETF waive..
Anyone have gotten the same answer here? How did you get the ETF waived?

I got the usual knowlegeless moron who didn't know how discounts were applied, put me on hold while her "senior specialist" told her how to do her job, then came back and felt like she had to tell me about the discounts and how math worked even though that's what I started our conversation with. Got transferred to retention, got offered $100 to extend on of my lines and nothing else. God I'm so sick of this crap. I took my personal line to T-Mobile no-contract last month and am going to pitch that to my family plan members. Done with Sprint.

Hate to say it, but you do not qualify as an informed poster.
It isn't the loss of the discount on the second line that is the material change, it is the fact that they will start charging $19.99 for line 2, where for a shared plan is was $0. It makes no difference if the total cost for line #1 and #2 is $129.99 before and after. It is the fact line #2 is now $19.99 more than before.

No, this is yet another sneaky way to raise your monthly rate. This new policy rearranges your monthly charge so that the second line is now $19.99/month--with no corporate or other discount applicable.

Tell the rep that you want your lines marked as "ready to be ported out without a termination fee." (You have the right to shop around and then port out your phone number.) There are a couple of ways the rep can accomplish this, but the simplest way is to mark your contracts as fulfilled (i.e., expired), so the rep may simply do that.

Coverage is highly dependent on location, but I'm happy with the Virgin $35/mo. smartphone plan (the $55 is unlimited data + minutes) on Sprint network. PagePlus $55 has limited data on Verizon network, but their internet is lightning fast compared to what DH gets on AT&T. Check the coverage maps and ask people. I've moved all over the country - one town's dog is another town's go-to provider.

new - line 1 - $110.00 - 25% = $82.50 line 2 - $19.99 line 3 - $29.99 line 4 - $19.99 line 5 - $19.99 total - $172.46
which is about $5 more under new. does that sound right?
btw, i looked at the 3 last bills, no clause regarding this change anywhere. weird to have this change effective 2/1/12, so close from today to not put a notice on any of my bills.

CSR I spoke to was knowledgeable but said I have to wait for direct notification from Sprint in order to cancel all lines without ETF (since, technically, they haven't changed the ToS on my account yet) and said I had 30 days from notification to do so. Tempted to grab an iPhone since this isn't official yet, then cancel service in two weeks (or have ETF removed)...
I would love to switch...when I signed up, I was told I was going to get a 23% discount for my workplace. After months of not receiving the discount, my rep stopped returning my calls. Finally I was able to get a 15% discount. I would love to switch to a different carrier, but I cannot find any major carrier that is cheaper. The people that are listing 25% - 27% discounts, where do you work? Is there a list of current Sprint discounts - maybe I qualify, I am just not asking the right questions.

I called back in March which saved me since the Supervisor noted my account. He had told me I could not get out of my contract back then. I knew he was wrong and I told him he was wrong but he said he was right. Today I called got the retention Dept. They said I could only get out of it after the first 30 days. I told her to check the call logs to verify that I called back in March and the rep was misinformed. I was able to get $110 total back to my account, I did not want out of my contract but I wanted them to Honor there part of my 2 year agreement.
