buy this or use the $85 towards a tablet? (any tablet should have an alarm clock app to double this unit, right?)

Sony has announced that they've discontinued development on the Dash, FYI ... so get this if you want a really nice alarm clock with some widgets ... the non battery one has gone for as low as $29.99 refurbished before tax and shipping.

edit: to clarify, there will be no new applications but. existing applications will continue to be available, for an unspecified time.

I have the non-battery model. It was a nifty device until a ton of apps got pulled from the market. I used it in the bathroom for radio and at a glance news information. Unfortunately, a bunch of news outlets pulled their apps for some reason a week or two ago.

I have a feeling that the user portal will shut down in a year or two and this alarm clock will be completely useless when you can't even sign into Sony's servers.
