Wow, Never jumped on it cause it was always the 740 @ that price...this is the 840 but I have no HHGregg by me Waaaah!

lol

Wonder if Amazon will match...hmmmmm

My 82" is an older model but it's still the best $2k I've ever spent

Max, have you had any problems regarding the "Mitsubishi white dot" issue? I wonder if it was fixed in the newer versions. My Samsung 56" DLP has been perfect and only need a new bulb ($75, not $200 like the haters always say) after 5 years. I wish Samsung would have stayed in the DLP business. I'm hesitant to switch brands but Mitsubishi is nearly the only name in large DLPs any more.

The price must have dropped because Amazon has it for 1,689.00 and free shipping.

I've had zero problems so far, had it about 3 years. I do need to order a bulb to be prepared for the inevitable, last I looked they were $99

No negative replies saying that DLP is ancient technology, LED lasts 100,000,000 hours longer, etc. Am I missing something ? Low price for large screen?

Guess you missed the 1st reply! lol740 is the older model.

You miss the whole point of FatWallet: value.

I understand value better than most people. But I do not know a lot about TV's. I apologize if my question came out wrong. I was not trying to discredit Op. As you can see I gave him green.
I was hoping for some intelligent discussion regarding the comparitive quality vs price, not to be attacked. For example, I've 'heard' that DLP's are not as bright as some other TV's: Are they the best choice in all situations? Is this still the case, not true at all, etc.

Throw everything out you have heard about DLP's. I watched both football games last night within 12-inches of a large southern facing window with the light blaring in. Picture was bright, and perfect. I am positive an LCD or plasma would not have fared as well. Don't even get me started how good it is in ambient light. I have a 72" Mits DLP. As another member said, best $1600 I ever spent.

The only think I would say, is either use a credit card that extends your warranty, or get a square trade warranty. It is not that they are not reliable, its that it can get pricey to repair one if the worst should happen. I think I got a square trade for less than $100 to extend it to 3 years during one of their sales.

My Mits WDY657 65" DLP is 5 years old and it has now developed 3 twinkling white and 2 constant black pixels in the last few weeks. Before that, it was flawless and I loved it. Now my eyes are drawn to the bad pixels (mirrors) and it annoys the hell out of me. Over 2 million individual moving mirrors and a spinning color wheel create a lot of malfunction opportunities. That was my apprehension when buying my set, but I'm glad I did since I got 5 great years out of it. No other current technology looked as good as my 5 year old DLP. Just keep in mind that the DLP chips will eventually fail and I don't know if they will still be manufactured by TI (the only maker) in another 5 years with the flaws now showing themselves. My DLP has 13,700 hours on it.

Wow, thats 7.5 hours/day average for 5 years... I would say you got your use out of it!

I just purchased this TV last week at HHGREGG. I paid $1458.00. It was on sale for $1858.00, but I bought the 5 yr warranty also. I could have bought the 60" Panasonic for much more but I would have to put it on a wall mount and that was about $500. My Mitsubishi is a corner so a flat screen was not necessary. There are only 2 stands at HHGREGG that this TV can sit on. a glass one for $399 and a wood one for $250.

The manager of the store (Joliet IL) had the stock room men put the TV on both stands so I could see exactly what it looked like, I picked the wood stand, glass is so hard to keep clean and the wood stand looked much better.

this TV is also 3D and has the emitter in it. I have not yet bought the cable for 3D or glasses, but that will be next.

When the TV arrived it worked for 10 minutes, and then went out. The very next day a new TV was delivered. I guess the TV needs to sit for about 1 hr before turning it on when it's cold outside.

I LOVE it!!! It was worth every penny and more! HHGREGG worked with me, and their sales people and customer service desk were excellent.

I like the brilliant setting on the TV, it's lovely crisp picture. I would highly recommend this TV for the pice.

I paid $2400 for 82" Mitsubish, 5 yr warranty, stand, and delivery. I also got 24 months free financing so I $100 a month is a drop in the bucket for such a deal!!!

So I am guessing the first figure was meant to be 2458, not 1458

Yes, HH Gregg is having a massive clearance on the all their 2011 TV's. I purchased an 82840 last week (2/23) and so far so good. I am a little concerned about the DMD chip and light box issues some have posted on other forums. However, I purchased the 5 year warranty like kimsmash. My deal was also similiar to kimsmashes, $2,600 for the 82" Mits ($1600), 5-year warranty ($500) heavy duty metal/glass stand ($425 retail), four pair of 3D glasses ($400 retail) and delivery (included hauling/moving of my old rear projection TV). That's almost $3,200 retail with tax and delivery. They sold me the stand and 3D glass at cost. It's a great time to purchase this TV from this retailer if you're not looking for a TV to hang on the wall. This TV provides a large - very clear picture, especially from High Definition TV signals and Blu-ray is amazing. I also took advantage of the 24 month same as cash financing. Remember the HH Gregg sales associate will work with you if you push them a little on their pricing, especially if they realize your are interested in a bundle package and the extended warranty. If an HH Gregg is near you - go checkout this Mits!
