My girlfriend has one of these. The attachments suck, but the main blender is quite good. It is not for breaking ice, marbles, childrens bones, etc. But for soups and stirring to get things into emulsion it is great. Also works great for pureeing pumpkin and soups. I used it to make soap (not soup!) Added benefit is that the blendy bits can be taken off and thrown in the dishwasher. Its very easy to clean.
Note, the $xx.89 indicates that Costco negotiated a special pricing directly with the manufacturer and usually means it's a very good deal compared to prices on the same product at different retailers.

timbudtwo- Yeah, Don't use it for ice. It's not meant for that (I doubt any other brand stick blenders can do ice either). The attachment is good for small batches of dips, humus, pesto, etc.
SOAP??? That's interesting... Please let me know how to do this.
I remember purchasing this for someone's wedding a few yrs ago for $50, so that's why this caught my eye when browsing the aisles.

My wife has used ours to make laundry detergent. You add baking soda, borax, hot water, some other stuff and then blend thoroughly with the blender. It mixes up to a pretty decent cleaner at a fraction of the price of store stuff. Do some searches for homemade detergent, you should find some info pretty easy.

If you're careful, you can use it for that. You're best to pulse a couple times, pick up the container and shake, then pulse a few more times (or else you'll end up with a bunch of unchopped onions sitting on top of onion juice and goo.
In my experience, these things work best for making soups, mixing up powdered drinks and protein shakes, and things like that. I think the nicest feature of this set is that it comes with a beater attachment.
Never thought I'd use a stick blender, but after getting one 5-6 yrs ago on sale, I love it. it's definitely a staple in my kitchen...
I mainly use it for making mashed sweet potatoes and soups...it's perfect for these tasks and does an incredible job. My mashed sweets are silky smooth! NOM NOM NOM!
without model number, i cant tell for sure, but it looks like ths gets mixed reviews on Amazon: tons for 5 stars and tons of 1 stars, which is wierd. I might go for the oneon Amazon for ~$30 which has a 4.5star rating with almost 1000 reviews. That one comes in various colors too.

good for baby food too. lot easier to use than the stand type blenders.

Price isn't bad @ 20. But my mashed is smooth with a regular mixer. For hummus, nothing beats a good food processor (e.g. cuisinart mini prep plus). For blending there is a great 650 watt Ge digital i just picked up; ice, frozen fruits, etc, no prob.

Very good price but this thing is very fragile(2 have stripped out on me, one hit a cinnamon stick and another a potato thank god for costco return policy). Great for soups\ broths
We used one to make large batches of baby food, sweet potatos, squash and such. We would freeze the mix in ice cube trays and put in ziplock bags. 2-3 cubes was a serving. It was cheap to make a big batch and its was pure food too! Love it!
we bought a stick blender at a yard sale years ago and use it all the time to make smoothies with ice and frozen fruit. I never thought of it not holding up to the ice. I've been eyeing the costco one for a few months for a gift for my dad, this is perfect.
thanks realized it after 15 mins I did get one yesterday amitkhare77 said: OP's picture shows 01/29/2012
