Or how it compares to the 2012 model, which I believe is the YHT-S401BL ($599)?

I got this last year for about the same price. It's a very nice unit and the sound is very good, but do NOT expect any surround sound effect. It is non-existent.
Also, it will not decode Dolby HD. I'm not sure if it will do Dolby HD HDMI passthru.
