My New Years' resolution was to resist crazy FW-driven impulse buys on gadgets ---like this one. Must...be...strong. Now, if my kids were still of a science fair age...maybe...

Another example of what a scam a lot of the Groupon deals are. They take $5 off of $10 worth of goods and advertise that as being 50% OFF. When, in reality, you spend $50 or more at the place and get the $5 off. They also HIGHLY INFLATE the "original price" making the discount seem worthwhile. They advertise this one as "44% OFF" since they list the original price as $62.00 when, clearly, it does not go for $62.00 without this deal. What a SCAM!

FWIW, a popular price-tracking site suggests those were as low as $47.99 in recent weeks.
