Pity the photosensor will be thrown away with the bulb once it dies. And with Home Depöt selling 4 packs of CFLs for under $3 bucks, I can't justify the cost.
Trouble is, those regular outdoor socket sensors don't work with CFLs. I guess I'll keep manually using the porch light switch till I find a good solution.
I had the same issue, and I installed a timer to replace the switch. It's rated for CFLs, and it works great. This particular one is programable with your location so it goes on at sunset and off at sunrise (there are other setting and options as well). Change the battery everyone couple of years - it tells you when - and you're good to go. It even has a randomizer so the lights come on a few minutes different each night - to make it seem like someone is home all the time. Mine is an Intermatic Digital and it's lasted much longer than the Intermatic rotary knob timers ever did.
This is it - ST01C. As I recall, I picked it up at Lowes for around $20-25 a few years ago.
