Love this mouse. I use both the 3500 and the 4000 and they are amazing. Both mice use the "Blue Track" technology which works great on all surfaces. Wood, glass, carpet, fabric, etc. Both mice include micro-receivers. The 4000 includes a "back button". The 4000 also has a "quiet" click and scroll.

Ergonomically, how is the back button placement on the 4000? I have a MS Wireless mouse 6000, and the side button is located too far forward on the mouse. For my thumb to reach it, I have slide my hand forward from the resting position each time.
BlueTrack is indeed excellent, I have never had a problem with a non-glass surface.
I think the mouse is less than full size (maybe 3/4), so IMHO the thumb button sits in just the right spot.
On another note, the battery life on these things is amazing...so long as you remember to switch them off when not in use. I can't remember the last time I changed the battery on either my 3500 or my 4000. I use the 3500 to drive my HTPC and the 4000 for my work laptop.
