Just got an email from Gap. They are currently running a surprise coupon promotion valid for anywhere from 25% to 40% off everything. The coupon codes seem to be cookie based, so opening Gap.com through a private browser window repeatedly helped me see the various sales. Currently the 40% off coupon is GAPSHOP. This is cookie-based, so you can't type in the code without seeing the banner.
I was able to call the GAP 800 number and have my prices adjusted from this past weekend's sale (including the extra online 15% off). Saved me an additional 15-20%.
Clear your cookies and cache OR open a private browser window and try to go to Gap.com again. You'll need to close the private browser window and reopen again if you don't get the coupon you want.

I tried a few times and I managed to get the 40% off coupon. The most frequent one if 25%, and the least frequent one is 40%. So keep trying. I used Incognito/Private mode so that the cookies get cleared when I close the window.
There seems to be an issue with certain products, like this shirt. After I see the 40% off coupon and I add it to the cart, the coupon seems to be downgraded to 25% or 30%.
Thanks OP!

Any idea if it's the same deal for Banana Republic? They're owned by the same company. I'm seeing 30% off with the code BRCOLOR.
I am a GAP Silver cardholder and do get these emails it was by chance you get 25% to 40% off. My link brought up 30% so even when I added the 40% off code it did not accept it, I had to take my 30% off only

You needed to clear cookies and try again OR try using a private browser window.

What a pain, even with clearing cookies you get one sale offer, then you login, and the offer changes....
Took 15 minutes to finally get 40% after signing in...

Tried for 40% for about 10 minutes and gave up.
I wouldn't spend more than a few minutes going for 40%. The chances of getting it seem pretty low in spite of the few successes in this thread. And as one poster mentioned, the coupon does change once you log in, so your efforts may be for naught anyway. I had to retry a few times in private windows just to get back the 30% that I had gotten originally. It was inconvenient but more or less worth it in the end.

does anyone know if you bought an item a few days ago for a sale price, but no coupon, can you call and apply a coupon to the item as a price adjustment within their 14 day policy?

I did just that. Had bought about $200 worth of things during their President's Day Sale. I called in and asked if I could apply the 40% off coupon instead of reordering and returning my more expensive merchandise. They gave me a ~$35 credit to my card.

thanks, i noticed in the details section of their codes it says not valid on previous purchases, but customers could just return-rebuy to get the discount, so i wasn't positive.

Is Gap Inc slow to report purchases? Been like 2 weeks and no credit.

Anyway, I ordered on the 22nd, got my confirmation email a few hours later and got shipping notification on the 24th.
