This is an amazing price! I have owned one for four years. I paid $300 for it, and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks. Will get one for my wife's car. Traffic cops are going crazy here in AL now, a friend of mine got a ticket today on interstate for going 77 in 70 mph zone. Cop has actually told him that his speed was 85... There were 4 other cars stopped with all the drivers getting tickets. State is out of money and county is bankrupt

How well do these detectors really work?
For those thinkinging of buying these to resell them, beltronics doesn't honor warranties from "unauthorized" sellers. Seems to me like a way for a company of avoid having to pay for supporting their product to me.
How old is this thing? The reviews on Amazon date back to 2004. This may have been good in its time, but there are always new technologies around the corner to make this model obsolete.

I had one for may years until it was stolen recently, it always worked very well. I replaced it with an RX65, which is only slightly better overall.

There really hasn't been much development in the radar detector arena. These old models are still very good. The newer models support things like GPS and the ability to work with a laser jammer. There hasn't been anything new with regards to the radar units that law enforment uses either. If anything some departments are going to LIDAR (laser) in which case any radar detector really won't help you...all it will do is let you know that you are about to get a ticket.

There is some development in radar arena - the stealth detection improved, supposedly nothing is undetectable anymore, all the VG2 is old, but this is problem for DC and commercial drivers. Also pop guns, are using too short of a window, which many detectors dont respond, very limited number of detectors can handle that. GPS supposedly great at reducing falsies, but i question the logic it uses to filter out stationary signals, could be detrimental. Anyway, if i can get Bel 995, i will, used 982 for years, other than plenty of falsies, it saved me money multiple times. Falsies are nto bad, so you step on the brakes , when you could have continued speeding, big deal, doesnt hurt to look around.

I read on SD something about taking a survey for Radio Shack and receiving a $10 coupon.

Found one in White Bear Lk, MN. Last one and it was only $65.97. Forgot to use my coupon though!
I've had this detector for a couple of years. I primarily use it when I'm traveling the vast interstates between metro areas in Texas. It works very well in those situations, but Texas is very flat and there aren't too many places for the police to hide. It's saved me at least 50-100 times over the past 2 years though. Only time i got very close to getting a ticket was when the officer flashed his radar on as I was driving by, but I still was able to slam my brakes on in time and avoid a ticket. I think I paid $120 for it 2 years ago from Amazon.

Radio Shack used to include a survey link on every receipt, no matter how much you spent ( and even on return receipts) if you took the survey you got a coupon for $10 off $50. I made a couple purchases in Feb and noticed that neither of my receipts included the survey, which was a first for me, so not sure if something has changed

I managed to score one this afternoon in South Florida - store inventory said they had it ... but there was no sign of them in store ... however after routing around in the back they managed to produce one - so have them double check if the "stock checker" says they have it !

Picked one up today. On the shelf it had a discount tag listing it for $161. I asked the woman if she could scan the price and it was $65.
I'll be driving cross-country in a couple of months, so this will be helpful. Now, just need to figure out a way to wire it to my fusebox and run the power cord up behind the trim so I can position the radar detector up high on my windshield near the rear-view mirror. I've done this on a couple of my past vehicles with other radar detectors.

So I decided to take a look at what all the fuss on this was and when I went to the store, they said the last guy bought the last 2. But they offered me the Cobra XRS 9990 for $39. How do these two compare to one another?

Got one! Had to have them search their customer facing website and prove it showed them as "in stock" before they would even look in back for it though! While I was there I picked up their last $10 USB3 card from one of the other current threads...
