With the John Carter movie just released, thought people may be interested in reading the books.

Since the text is pretty old (first written in 1912) - all of the Barsroom series is free on Amazon!

Avoid the re-packaged versions people are charging 99 cents for and get the individual books.

I had already paid the .99, but green for the deal OP!

Thanks!

Even though they are quite old, they are still a great read. A great series for a teen or pre-teen too.

If you want a version for another ebook reader or a Kindle version with the illustrations included, you can also get them for free from Project Gutenberg:

Project Gutenberg - Books by Burroughs, Edgar Rice

Thanks for the heads up.

Got 24 Edgar Rice Burroughs books for free for my Kindle on PC App. Synced to my Touchpad and now have a lot more books to read while on the go.

Dumb question which one is the movie after?

Not a dumb question at all. It's mostly based off of the first book of the series, Princess of Mars.

Bathroom ? it must really suck!!!!

First, thumbs up for one of the first SF series I ever read. Don't try to take them too seriously, keep in mind that they were written a long time ago, and you'll enjoy the ride.

Second, Wiki lists a number of "Mars" books that are not available for free.

The Master Mind of Mars
Llana of Gathol
Swords of Mars
A Fighting Man of Mars
Synthetic Men of Mars

If I'm wrong here, please let me know, because I would love to pick these up for free or cheap.

Also, some of these books (and many others in the public domain) have been turned into free audio books. The quality of these audio books is variable, but free is free, and I have listened to many on long commutes.

Fantastic thread for a fantastic series of books. I read them as a kid and reread them a few years ago and had almost as much fun the second time.
