I have consistently purchased bottles of 500 of equate brand at WalMart B&M for around $8 over the years. And most medication lasts for YEARS beyond the expiration date. Even after 5-10 years most medication only has a very minor degradation in effectiveness, if any at all. IMO, throwing out "expired" meds is throwing money away.

Expiration dates are when a medication has dropped to ~80% of the original potency/therapeutic effect. Therefore you are correct in your usage

yes, most meds do last beyond expiration dates, however, if you're buying this for workplace usage or other "public" use, then it's always best they be in date. for your own personal/in home use, then it's your choice.

Uh, no., expiration dates is a date (required by the FDA) that a manufacturer supplies that thru testing they guarantee their product is at 100% potency.
There are a few medications that you never want to use past their expiration date, like tetracycline and nitroglycerin. Some smaller studies have indicated that alot of medications are still at 90% potency 15 years after the expiration date. Of course even within the expiration date, storage conditions is important.
Personally, I believe the manufacturers do not want to have studies showing their medications are good for longer periods because they will lose sales volume.

Kroger has their brand of Ibuprofen on sale this week (through Sunday). 500 tablets for $5. I laughed because the 250 tablet bottle next to it was 5.49! Lol

Walgreens has 500 count 200mg bottles of ibuprofen for $9.99 but this week they have a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal on Walgreens brand ibuprofen. 1000 pills for $15.
Costco's regular price for Kirkland brand is 0.9 cents per tablet.

It's usually national unless prices are higher based on region. Watch the grocery deals section. Regular price should be $1, use $1 target coupon.
