Did you have the coupon in hand when you went to the store?

I transferred a prescription to Walgreen yesterday morning. I went to pick it up in the afternoon. The pharmacy staff obviously is not familiar with this RX coupon. The pharmacy tech scanned my coupon and the register crashed. She then tried the second register. Again the register crashed. She then paged the manager. The manager came and he did not scan my coupon. He somehow got me a $25 gift card in the third register. Overall, everyone was very nice except this is totally new to them. Please allow for extra time if you plan on using this coupon.

typical...corporate comes out with a program and noone at the store level has any info how to proceed/do the deal.
You actually feel bad for the people in the store when they aren't properly notified/trained on how to complete a transaction using this new coupon.
My Harris Teeter has a sign that says they match any competitors gift card coupons so here is another place you can get gift cards. . . If you need Rx's, try getting generic fluoride toothpaste Rx's from your dentist. It costs $15 without insurance but my insurance pays for it all so it's free for me! The Rite Aid transfer coupons are for +Ups which are Rite Aid money that expires 2 weeks after it is issued. Not as good as a gc but better than nothing!

how many up's do you get? $25??

Be careful if you are going back and forth with transfers. Most states do have some laws regarding them. i.e. Controlled substances can only be transferred between companies once - you're "chill pill" Xanax or ativan is locked in to Wag if you transfer it there and fill it - until you get a new Rx from the doctor, of course. Usually the "problems" with transfers arise when you cross states lines. Just a heads up for the coupon chasers!

My generic in WalMart was $10(90day supply), now in Walgreens they want for $57, even if I pay for the $20 membership fee still come out to be $16 $20+$16-$25(gift card)= $11> $10Walmart price.

I had the coupon. The people working there had no clue how to issue the gift card. By the way the cash register crashed when they tried to use my coupon as well.

TO Sarasota Guy, RE: Pet Prescriptions; Our Vet calls in our pet meds to Walgreen's under our surname with our Pet's name as a first name. The prescription bottle will say something like "Rover Smith". The pharmacy doesn't care whether the recipient has 4 legs, LOL, their revenue is the same. So, at least in So Cal, the coupons have worked without any problem, multiple times, for human & pet meds. BTW, we also often get a good discount with our "AAA" auto club membership! Hope that helps. transferred two scripts, one on Sunday, one today. 2 different Walgreens. Both couldn't get the coupon to work. I give it to them though, they really tried. But the computer was not accepting it. Both took my number and told me they'd call me back. I'm going to wait till maybe later this month to transfer my other scripts so they can sort this out. They better give me my $50 though! I have two other scripts and my husband has 2 of his. Anyone had any luck with the coupon? for once my asthma is actually going to make me money. lol
I just returned from Walgreens without the gift card. I transferred my prescription from WalMart and the manager could not get it to work. She said she will research it further after I was waiting there for 20 minutes and said I may not get the gift card because the system says it is not eligible. She did not say why it was ineligible. Just to let you guys know that you may end up wasting your time cos Walgreens is incompetent.

that's really BS. I'd make the manager call corporate on the phone to walk them through how to do it, rather than come back. Let them issue you the darn gc and figure it out later, why hassle the customer for their incompetence with the deal. Someone below said they were just given the $25 on the spot.

So let me get this straight.....you guys are trying to profit off of a corporate mandated program NO ONE in the pharmacy or store is aware of.....of has been made aware of. Because of this they're obviously incompetent. The person that made great grades in college, took the PCAT, interviewed at medical schools, passed four years of post college education/rotations......is incompetent because your cheap asses can't get a stupid coupon to work? Are you insane?

Went to Walgreens on Monday to pickup the transferred prescription. Staff was totally unfamiliar with the promo but after a short wait and numerous failed tries scanning as per coupon, the manager issued a gift card for $25. This is certainly more reasonable than "I'll call you back and you can make a separate trip back here to get your $25 card" approach.

yes, as a corporate entity, it is incompetence to widely issue/promote a program and then have no idea how to execute it at the store level. Whoever is running the ship may have an MBA from Wharton for all I know, but it's a major EPIC FAIL when this stuff happens. There's really no excuse. For someone at the store level to tell you to come back another day to get your gift card, is poor service and incompetence. An educated and well versed store employee doesn't pass the buck to the customer because they don't know how to issue a gift card. You make the effort to call your zone manager or whoever, and find out what to do. But at no time do you blame the customer that the Transfer/Gift Card coupon you issued isn't working at the register.
As for your dumbass comments, noone is trying to "profit" here, it's a legitimate use of a program. If I'm paying $50 as a copay on an RX, getting back $25 in a gift card is hardly a "profit"...it's a savings. that's all.

Better yet is to transfer to CVS (they match competitors coupons). Then wait for an email coupon for 25% off and use your $25 GC to buy 4 books of stamps. Get $36 worth of stamps for your $25 GC + another $2 out of pocket which adds up to $27 for $36 worth of stamps. Or transfer multiple prescriptions to maximize this deal even more. I've done this many times.
Ivanist said: So I have Kaiser with RX there. Can I do this deal? Sorry not familiar with this transfer thing, but still want to participate. Hehe.
Thanks MrC!
if Walgreens accepts Kaisers RX insurance to fill prescriptions, I don't see why not. No exclusions to Kaiser that I can see.

Yes because as store employees, they have the power to dole out money/coupons as they see fit without repercussion. Doesn't take any education at all to figure that out. Not to mention, retail outlets get fake coupons ALL THE TIME! Don't believe me? I'll find you some Free after coupon Redbull coupons in about 12 seconds.
While the Walgreens is filling in excess of 300 scripts per day, you want them to sit there, ignoring all the truly sick people, to make sure you get your $25. Really......Really? Telling you they're not going to drop everything to call corporate while some kid is suffering from an ear infection and a 103 fever......you want your $25. An elderly man with a history of heart attacks needs his Warfarin......nope.....call corporate NOW!
Ohhhhh $50 copay? Yes, because its the Walgreens employees fault that your insurance sucks. Not to mention you think these profit margins are massive on medications? You obviously don't understand the RX world. How many billions are spent on drugs that never earn a single dime. Yes, it might cost .000001 cents to manufacture a drug.....after $1,000,000,000 was spent testing it to make sure you dont die when you take it.
Your copay doesn't matter to Walgreens......they sell medications at a price. Your insurance plan dictates at what % they will or will not cover. Have issues with your deductible? Call your insurance company, don't cry a river to Walgreens.

my time is just as valuable as their time. Walgreens made the offer, a customer is trying to use it in good faith. You treat every customer as they are the most important one in a well run service business. You obviously have a low opinion of your value as a customer and that's your problem. I don't give a rats ass if they have 300 RX'es to fill, that's their issue, not mine. Don't put out a coupon to entice customers to transfer their RX'es if your business is mismanaged and you have no intention of informing the stores how to do it. I totally disagree with you and your rant.

You're right, your $25 coupon is just as important as making a sick child feel better. Complain to corporate. Chips out of stock!?! You stay there until they special order it for you.
Next time you're running a fever trying to just get some meds and some man is complaining about the chip prices in aisle 9 to people who have ZERO control over it....we'll see if you feel the same way.
In fact, those Techs will call the CEO himself on her personal cell phone to figure out what's going on. You're a customer, you deserve to know NOW!
Its frustrating for EVERYONE when corporate does something and tell no one how to implement it. Don't take it out on the healthcare workers just trying to help people feel better. They told you they need to find out, they didn't tell you that you can't get $25.
Best Buy would have sent you an email telling you to Eff off........3 weeks later.

Not taking it out on the workers, but I'm sorry, there's no reason to tell a person to "come back" for something they should know how to do or can find out. You are over dramatizing this with your sick child nonsense. What makes you think people aren't doing this transfer for a sickly child or an elderly parent on heart medication? Give me a break.

I'm all for spirited discussion here. Better than useless claims of "in for one" and the like. But I wonder how things get so sidetracked and frankly, silly.
The main point of this thread is pretty clear. A company offers a gift card for transferring a prescription. Pretty straightforward. I've seen a sign in the window at a nearby store regarding the offer, affirming the validity. Therefore:
If the customer fulfills the terms, the offer should be fulfilled without undue hassle. It is absolutely outrageous and despicable if stores/employees/managers are not prepared/trained/informed of the details of the offer and how to administer it and likewise what to do if things do go as expected (coupon doesn't scan, etc.). The customer does have reason to be upset if hassles are not dealt with in a reasonable and timely manner. It may or may not be the fault of the local store, but certainly there is responsibility at the corporate level, and the local store is the representative of the corporation. Certainly, one should behave with patience and civility should a confrontation arise.
Presumptions about whether or not the coupon is legitimate, whether or not it is appropriate to profit from the offer, whether or not fulfillment of the offer is more important than the care of sick people, well, these are irrelevant and ridiculous. The offer is here. It is the store's responsibility to fulfill their part if the customer fulfills theirs.
Addendum. The manager called back and left a message that she has a gift card waiting for me at the office and apologized. I went back to collect it but had to wait in line at the pharmacy. The problem was that she was rude to me when she could not get it to work and was looking at my old bottle of medication again and again as if I was committing fraud.

I think I understand why this isn't working yet. I looked at the preview for next week's walgreen's ad, and it looks like this exact coupon is in that ad. Maybe their systems don't have it in there yet?
Also, it was funny because I asked a Walgreen's pharmacist a month ago if they had any prescription transfer offers like CVS did. He responded by telling me "No, *we* don't need to do that kind of thing."
