Updated to reflect price drop to $60.90 with free shipping

Been looking for a sledge hammer to break up a concrete patio. This one seems a bit over the top, but price seems to be the lowest it's ever been according to the Camel. Comes with a $1000 warranty if you can break it. Maybe I should post this in finance for Fun and Profit? =)

Walter Meier Manufacturing Americas will pay you $1,000 in cash if the handle of a BASH sledge hammer you own breaks during normal use within two years after the date of purchase. This payment is in lieu of any other remedy for a product defect you may have, including breach of any other express or implied warranties. The BASH $1,00 Guarantee does not apply to breakage that results from use of the sledge hammer other than as a hand-held striking tool, nor to defects involving the hammer head, including but not limited to, separation of the head from the handle. The BASH $1,000 Guarantee will apply only to products purchased through December 31, 2013.
HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM

The sledge hammer must be returned for examination, postage prepaid, to a location designated by Wilton. For the name of the location nearest you, please call 1-800-274-6848. You must provide proof of initial purchase date, and an explanation of how the handle broke must accompany the merchandise. If Wilton determines you are covered by the BASH $1,000 Guarantee, Wilton will send you $1,000. If their inspection discloses a defect but your are not covered by the BASH $1,000 Guarantee, they will repair or replace the product, or refund the purchase price, at their opinion, in accordance with their standard limited warranty on striking tools. For terms of Wilton’s standard limited warranty, see www.wiltontools.com/us/manufacturing/en/wilton/service_support/warranty.html

In for one to break. I will enjoy my $933 profit.

Ring the bell, big guy.

They'll just say it was defected and send you another one.

Agreed..sounds like a gimmick....also this is cheaper from a large third-party seller.

buy (2) and hit one with the other

Oh no doubt they'd wiggle out of the "warranty." Marketing gimmick that will never be paid to a single person.

I wouldn't say that's over the top at all for breaking up concrete, in fact I would suggest at least a 12lb sledgehammer and think this one might be too lightweight for concrete.

Ha, I've seen one of these in person. You manage to break one (per the manufacturer's definition of "break"), and I'll toss you a second grand for your troubles.

I find it amusing that it comes with a wrist strap. That seems like a nice way to dislocate your hand.

Only 4 left in stock--order soon (more on the way).

Overkill for shovelgloving.

The way we go through some handles during demo derby season, I may just take them up on this.
Otherwise, if you want durable, go to Menards and pay about $20 for their 8lb, slide a 1˝" pipe over the handle base and go nutz.

for this kind of money it should take me out to dinner and "you know what"

What does the pipe over the handle base do for you?

It'll give you a heck of a kiss.. You won't come back for a second.

Maybe I am ignorant, but if the handle never struck anything (from offsides, missed blows, etc), why would it break on any sledge hammer? Guys working sledges are strong, but strong enough to twist the handle out of the head? And if you could do it, Wilton would claim it a defect, so no $1k for you.

Weaselly Wilton Warranty!

Snapped handles are the most common break of any type of hammer, as the handles are usually wooden.

...or buy a craftsman and return it every time you break it for a new one. Seriously, did that with a sledge last week after missing my target and breaking the shaft.

This will go great with my Thor costume!

Speaking of sledge hammers... Does anyone else get reminded of Peter Gabriel?
