Great price for a great product!

Amazon quickly matched their price. Really just $3 less than the typical going price.

Spread the business - some to Amazon and some to Newegg.

Well they did just come out with a new one with more features this past week (for almost double the price but a lot more features), so price drops are expected on the older ones.

I am still after nearly 2 years sitting here with the 110 model and have no idea what to do with it.

I have been using this in my house for over 6 months. I have it set up with Google Voice for free calls and I use Callcentric for international calls. I pay 1.50 a month for 911 service.... All I can say is that it works flawlessly... no problems whatsoever...

got one, thanx!

Are you getting the E911 via Callcentric, or by some other method? I'm interested in switching over to my GV number at home using my Obi110, but not if it means giving up 911 calls. I've read some about getting the local non-911 number for your local emergency dispatch and mapping that to 9*1*1 on via a script on your Obi device, but to test it, you actually have to call it at least once, which can mean charges up to and including a felony for calling 911 without an emergency if you don't have permission ahead of time. If you have more info about how you are getting E911 to work on your Obi device, I would certainly appreciate it!

step by step directions to use with google voice??

have a dial tone, but can't complete calls...

RE:

A call to the police ahead of time will allow you to test.

I have one, love it.
Vickh: did you even check their site? they have step by step for gvoice here: http://obihai.com/tutorial17.html

I use gvoice and callcentric for voice service, ported my old monthly-billed VoIP number to it.
Working great, have E911, and only pay for the actual minutes we use, which are minimal given that we use our cell phones 90% of the time.

And it looks like Amazon isn't charging California tax.

Does this product let you send and receive faxes? That is what is holding me back.

I have comcast phone service.
Can I tranfer my phone number to this service?
How is that done?

Thank in advance.

The device does support fax. Any fax limitations depend on the service provider you use, not this device.

Google voice does not officially support fax. Some have reported success, but the majority report failure.

I have been using google voice exclusively for 3+ years. I have had 3 Obi110's in use for 15 months with no problems.

So after 2012 when google starts charging, do we have other options go use this?

This is not a voip service. It is a device that allows you to use a regular telephone with many voip providers. Most providers will allow porting (for a fee). Google voice only allows porting numbers from mobile providers. Many have ported landline numbers to mobile phones and then ported to google voice.

This is the only ATA that supports google voice, but it supports the majority of real voip providers. Google voice is not a full voip provider. This device allows configuration with google chat in gmail, which can be used independently for free outgoing calls, or you can link a google voice account to your gmail account for free incoming and outgoing.

People "accidentally" call 911 all the time without any consequences. I unknowingly called when I set up my Obis. Because the return call went direct to my NetTalk voicemail, a police officer showed up at my door. When I saw him at the door I realized what had happened. He said "it happens all the time". It was quite a while after the call before he knocked, so I am glad there was no real emergency.

This and Vonage were both a hit or miss for sending a fax. I have zero problem with faxing using Ooma.

I guess it is irrelevant for someone who don't send faxes.

What about Magic Jack and faxing? Anyone care to share?

I had no success with MJ. I got a Nettalk Duo and was successful with faxing.

Not sure I understand what this thing is used for. Is it a converter box like what Vonage or another Voip company sends you, but since you're buying this one you can use it with most Voip providers and save $$ instead of buying their equipment?

MitchFlorida said:   Does this product let you send and receive faxes? That is what is holding me back.

I have been able to send faxes with no problem using a Brother All-In-One. I have not had to receive faxes, so I cannot comment on that.

For those who are seeking fax capabilities and 2 phone ports, does anyone know whether this new model (OBI202) priced currently on Amazon at $74.99 might be a better alternative to OBI100 and OBI110? I have Ooma Hub now (this is the old version without any fees)

OBi202 VoIP Phone Adapter with Router, 2-Phone Ports, T.38 Fax - Supports: Google Voice & SIP (Unlocked)

With the Obi110 you can keep your Ooma and connect it to the system. You cannot do that with the others.

To point out to those unfamiliar with these.

The Obi110 has a line in port so you can connect a landline (or similar service like Vonage, ooma, cable phone service, etc.) and use it along with the voip providers you set up on the Obi. All incoming calls can ring the same phones connected to the Obi, and you can bridge the line port to the voip services to make outgoing calls on the land line from your smart phone, pc or other Obi devices. The new Obi202 or the Obi100 do not have this line in port. The Obi110 or Obi100 is restricted to only one call at a time from the phone.

The Obi202 has two phone ports and can have up to 4 voip providers configured, in any combination, on one or both of the phone ports. You can have one active call per phone port.

Although it cost more to have 2 Obi110's instead of the new Obi202, you can get the same service configuration, the same 2 phone ports and also still have the option of incorporating a conventional service/device on the line port.

Line port services = Ooma, Vonage, Magic Jack, Magic Jack plus, NetTalk, conventional land line, etc. You can daisy chain 2 Obi110's together, input a line service and get up to 4 voip services, the Obitalk service and the line service all on the same phones.

*******IMPORTANT********
caller id name is provided by the service provider that delivers the call to you, not the provider the call was placed on. So if you only use google voice, all your calls will be placed and received by google voice.

GOOGLE VOICE DOES NOT SUPPORT CALLER ID NAME. Only the callers number will be displayed.

GOOGLE VOICE DOES NOT ALLOW CALLER ID SPOOFING. The outgoing caller id will always be that of the google voice account placing the call (number only as there is no name associated with a Google Voice account for the delivering provider to get).

Make phone calls? Decorate your living room? Is this a trick question? Or are you having setup problems?

I got 2 obi100, using one as a second line to my ooma. With cell phone, they are both a little redundant, but for their free or near free operating costs, worth keeping. Now, I don't know what to do with that second unit. It is a backup in case the first fails. I thought of using it as a fax line, but why? I only receive a few faxes a year and already have an online receive fax number. I only send a few faxes a year, and can use existing lines.

Given my usage, these will go on craigslist or the junk pile.

What happens when you call the test number, **9 222-222-222? does it work?

Fwiw, the test number worked fine when I set things up months ago, and the unit has been working well with google voice, and still works, but I get an error with the test number. Haven't bothered to track it down, and it might be time for a firmware update, or something.

Update: looks like the test number is working again. Might have been a network glitch.

I use the 110 with my existing Verizon landline to get free long distance calling through GV. Works great. I'd love to drop Verizon and go GV only, but haven't been able to convince the wife yet. Once and awhile the calls through GV have pretty bad echoing. And in 2 months the OBI unit has frozen once and required rebooting.

Is there an instruction manual for using, not just the setup, of bridge mode? I haven't been able to find one. I don't see the advantage of using one phone device versus two. Can you make free long distance calls from ANY Verizon landline phone? What do you dial? Can you switch between the two lines, call waiting? Bridge them together for three way call? That would be great, but I haven't seen that's possible with the device. Thanks!

Mapping a local number to 911 may not be a good idea since your location information (address, phone) may not show up at the receiving end. If the emergency prevents you from speaking or giving information about your location, it could cost precious time before the emergency is responded to. Paying extra for e911 service would be worth it in such a case.

regarding faxes, etc... I have a Panasonic ShowStopper (TiVo-like) DVR, that needs to call Long Distance # for program guide info, and.. thats Why I bought my OBI110... but, I have not been successful, anybody here doing similar?
thanks!

I think what Narcosis is saying is that they can still use their Verizon landline but can make free long distance calls with google voice from the same phone, no elaborate hardware setup required.

Using this device will not change any usage restrictions you currently have with your landline provider.

Have had one of these (110) for a while. Once initially configured, it had been rock solid.

Really cheap, and very flexible, all things considered. The new two port model provide a more expandable SOHO option, or any easy way to give a chatty teen their own phone line at home.
