shoponkyo.com gives you 10 free onkyo points when you join Club Onkyo. Those points are a $10 credit on your next purchase.

In the club specials section the TX-NR609 Refurb is listed at $299.99 when you are logged into your club onkyo account. When you add it to your cart and go to checkout the price drops to $244.15 (which includes your 10 free Onkyo points).

There was no tax for me and shipping was free.

I've purchased a refurb from them before and it was as good as new.

am considering doing the 709 for $391 shipped.

also, this would be my 4th refurbished Onkyo receiver.
never had a single problem with any of them. One is still on duty at my dad's house 8 years later.

thanks OP.

Shouldn't a receiver last? I've never had one quit on me (including an eleven-year-old onkyo refurbished that I use daily)

Receivers SHOULD last, but like everything else, electronics manufacturers are cutting corners on component quality to save money, assume people will trade up as new features become available - 3D video, audio player interface, wifi, etc.

I am a big Onkyo fan, traded up to the TX-SR606 a few years back. The HDMI interface board went bad shortly after the warranty expired, caused by some bad capacitors - very well documented. Fortunetaly, Onkyo still paid for the repair at a locally approved repair shop.

Onkyo receivers have a reputation of running hot, require good ventilation.

Do you need to type in a promo code to get the $44 savings? I'm just seeing the $10 off and I'm getting dinged $23.50 for taxt in Texas so $312 total.

I created an account and put in cart for 299.99 And at check out still the same? I cannot get it to go down to $244.15 ?

i think i wait for the 709

there a 15% coupon ---> AP15 enter that on the code when u check out

PROMO CODE = AP15

It automatically applied for me. Be mindful that your log in session did not got timed out. I had to sign back on since I took too long looking for card number.

Thank you. AP15 works.

397.15 shipped for the 709 seemed pretty good.... so I jumped on that.

Thanks OP! I got in on the 709.

Thanks OP! I've been eyeing the 709 for months now. Tax in TX but still better than $550+ everywhere else.

I install sound systems and in the beginning (a few years ago) I used Onkyo. Well, due to heat issues, I have moved to Yamaha. They run much cooler. Also, I have had several Onkyos where the HDMI switch failed.

I just can't use Onkyos any longer.

Kev

AWESOME deal.. thank you. I was looking for something just like this.

Good find OP, long time Onkyo/Integra fan myself... My ~2001 Integra DTR-9.1 (Onkyo TX-DS989) (lack of HDMI kills it ;P ) just died for 2nd time in a year, cold solder joints that the dealer 'fixed' by accident when they took it apart last summer and found nothing, charged me $80. I'm having a hard time swallowing another ~$80 repair that will last a year apparently, so I'm using this as an excuse to get something with HDMI...

Same here, almost. After spending three months at their authorized repair shop waiting for an HDMI board, Onkyo finally replaced my TX-SR606 with a TX-SR607. The replacement had a 90-day warranty, and it started failing in the same way within a year. I have to leave it turned on at all times, otherwise it cools down and the HDMI switching stops working. After being on for a couple of days it will start working again. It's the same capacitor issue I had before.

Have they fixed those issues in the TX-NR609? I love everything else about Onkyo, but I won't buy another one otherwise.

I bought a NR709 a few weeks ago and love it!

i checked a bunch of reviews and ths 609 and 709 are all generally good. For the non audiophile, what is the $150 advantage to the 709?

Anyone own either the 709 or 609 and know whether or not you can change audio input on the fly while leaving video input. I am not sure if this is a functionality that is even available on a receiver. Basically what I would like to do is leave pass thru video from one source (Cable TV - Sports Game) and have the Audio from a different source OPT1 (CPU) for example.

I don't think you can do it exactly the way you want to, but on the 606 you can do this with a couple of analog inputs like Tape or CD. Since they have no video associated, only the audio switches. I do this sometimes to use my iPad/Android playing via Bluetooth to a Logitech module connected to the CD input. I will use iHeartRadio to listen to one football game while watching another.

Probably none... the biggest improvements that I wanted are Audyssey auto room calibration (2EQ vs MultiEQ XT) and the number of hdmi inputs/outputs

Thank op, currently waiting for marantz 7006, completely component base amplifier with complimentary field transistors looks really what I need

Doh! Tax in Texas! 709 is very tempting. I wish I could sell my Old Onkyo TX-SR607.

dead? i logged on to grab that 609 this morning and i cant seem to find any?

It appears to be dead. I still had the page pulled up from last night and went to check out, I got this message:

An error has occurred while processing your request.
The element at position 6, of dimension 2, of an array object used as part of an expression, cannot be found.

The webmaster has been notified and is working on fixing the problem.

I got this for $150 at Frys over Black Friday. Excellent receiver. I love it.

There is a $22 tax for IL, This is the cheapest I have seen online, so I jumped on this deal. I am replacing my 10 years old Denon 3802. The only feature that I am looking for is hdmi in ports.

Sure seems dead to me...such a shame, I've been comparing this and the Pioneer VSX-1021-K for about a week. If I had searched this forum yesterday and saw this, would've bought in a second. Still, $289 isn't a horrible deal...think it's worth waiting around for another amazing deal?

Its Monday 4-23 can't get Onkyo online to accept the promo code AP15. Does anyone if it is expired. I am a club member and it took the the rest of my club pints. This is on the TX NR609. Or is anyone aware of another promo code(s). Thanks

I called to just check and that code is expired. I decided to go ahead with the deal anyway because I really like this receiver and I still think it's a pretty decent deal.

Got in for a TX-NR709 for under $400 shipped. Wavered between that and a new 616/717 series receiver, but the weight and specs on these were too good to pass up. I'll skip the bells and whistles (e.g., MHL support sounds kind of cool with my Galaxy phone) and go for something solid and tested. Thanks OP! Got my FedEx tracking number already (online inquiry) and it's arriving tomorrow...

For example, I just eBayed my old 608 to trade up to a 709, and didn't have to put much down at all to "upgrade" even after several years of use on the old one. The better Onkyo models are always in demand, not so much the weaker ones.

My 609 is being delivered today.. can't wait.

I totally agreed. I had a HT-RC180 and had the exact HDMI capacitor problem about a month after the 2-yr warranty expired. Onkyo repaired it at a local service center, but took "forever" to get the part. Had to buy a Pioneer vsx1021 in the meanwhile. Overall, onkyo is a wonderful product WHILE they last. Compared to teh VSX1021, my HTRC180 blows it aways in terms of sound quality, but the VSX1021 has a number of wonderful features lacking in the Onkyo. So you have to decide what is more imporant for you, features or the sound quality.

Sold my Onkyo 160 for $200 on Craigslist last night, so this upgrade cost me right around $50. I'm a happy camper. Hooked it up last night and I'm impressed with this unit. Thanks OP.

I had an Onkyo 606 4 years ago. The hdmi board crapped out right after the warranty expired. This seemed like the norm for my Onkyo model and several others. Although I liked my Onkyo, it seemed their hardware crapped out prematurely. I hope they have fixed that issue. For now I'm using a Yamaha RX-A700.

Thanks OP. How can we get the new promotional code?
