Wouldn't it be easier for BR to just lower all their prices 35% - 40% and skip this coupon game they play daily? Anyone who regularly shops at BR knows that you never buy anything until a 40% coupon shows up.

jcpenney did just that and everyone is whining that they want their coupons back.

Yeah it never works. Consumers thrive off the "idea" of the deal, even when it isn't that great. Any FW'er should be very well of that.

GM tried to do this back in the early 00s. They were tired of putting $10k rebates on the hood of trucks and SUVs, so they tried just lowering the MSRP. People still wanted their rebates, or else they didn't feel like the "deal" was there. I guessed the average JCP customer would react the same way, and it looks like I am right.

I'd like to see this experiment done someday. Two stores in a mall, lets say JCP and Kohls. Both selling the same item. JCP uses their "everyday low price" model and prices it at $60. Kohls prices it at $100, but offers a special 35% off coupon for a "Super Saturday" sale. Who do you think will sell more? $60 regular price, or $65 after a whopping 35% off? I'm guessing Kohls would win the day.

So true...

I tried ordering a $79 regular price dress shirt but the coupon didn't work.
