Just went to Target and they have their display models of the Panasonic TC-P55ST30 at clearance for $890. Then they are taking an addition 30% off. Then if you use your Target card you get an additional 5% off. $890-267-31.15= $591 + tax out the door. I went to the Target in Shoreview, MN and was hassled by some a-hole college kid working electronics who thought he was all powerful and knowledgeable before I got the deal from a different location. Long story...lunch hour wasted...but got the deal elsewhere.

Addition % off for display items is NOT guaranteed. Stores commonly offer an additional 10% off though, not 30% like OP found. Some stores will offer NO additional % off for electronics items on clearance and on display.

Can you explain taking 30% off from clearance price? Is ther any promotion going on? is this 30% off at particualar location or nationwide? Thanks in advance.

These are two big YMMVs. First clearance percen off is varies from store to store. Second the 30% off is also different from store to store. A few years ago its acrross all store but not any more so 2 ymmv.

From what I was told, the original 200 off is every where (down to 890). Then the addition 20-30% off is store to store. The first place I went, the set had a scratch in it (offered 30% off). The second store's set was also scratched, but not on the screen they were on the outer plastic frame. Unfortunately, this place (Shoreview, MN) had some dick working in electronics along with a manager that was for some reason taking orders from this college aged dick (extremely rude, and no I was not rude or pushy at all) and refused to match the 30% off from the other store. So I went to a third store and was successful.

I had the same concern. I'd say yes, it will be a factor in it's life and could be a factor in it's display. But, purchasing the TV is the same as if you are purchasing a new in-box tv. You can still return it the same if you want and you still get a manufactures warranty and possibly an extended warranty if you choose. So it's a little bit of a gamble, but at a great price I thought it was worth the gamble. If you buy it, you can take it home and have a better look at it's overall quality and decide if you want to keep it or bring it back.

Probably a good idea to grab an Extended Warranty with Squaretrade... via Costco...
55" ST30 is mega hot @ $600... enough for me to check it out since my 52" Sharp has a few lines in it.

At the local Target the manager told me that they do not give any more than 15% off(usually only 10%) on open items UNLESS they are missing something...stand, remote, manual etc. Then they can go up to 30%. He also told me that electronic markdown days are Tuesday and Friday and sometimes both in the same week. This seems to be a regional decision.

I think it goes from store to store. I've spoken to a few people I know that work at Target Corp, and there's no policy on this. It's up to each store's manager to decide what % off to offer. At the stores I went to, both the 20% and 30% off included all parts - stand, remote, manual, etc.

This is the same target that NEVER has a clearance price as low as the ones I see on SD. I never get excited about target deals on SD anymore

I registered just to thank you for posting this. I paid $890 - 30% off because it was a display model. I had to call around to a few Targets to find one that was doing 30% off. Most in the Bay Area, CA will only give 10%. Hayward, CA stores do 30% off. I got the last one at the Target I went to, but I know that the other Hayward store has one.
I decided to use my AMEX card to purchase so I could get an extra year of warranty. I plan on getting the square trade warranty from Costco for $60, so all told my cost was:
$890 - 30% + $60 warranty = $683 + tax for a TV that was $1600 last year + 5 year warranty.
Thanks!

Your store has removed the DPCI from the system because A) it's salvage, or B) they sold out the remaining inventory

Was at a Target just a couple weeks ago and the manager told me they no longer offer ANY additional discount off TVs that are already on clearance, just because they're also display models. He still gave me extra 10% off, but only because of missing extras (remote, manual, etc.) That being said, I wouldn't want a plasma that's been running for 12 hours a day for god knows how long, even for an extra 50% off.

If you do find one, make sure it has a build date of August 2011 or later. There was a bug in earlier builds which can lead to a problem with fluctuating brightness.
I have this TV from an earlier Sears deal and it is a great TV, very happy with it.

FWIW, I could check stock the other day on this DPCI (via site88.net), but now I'm unable to... I get an error saying target.com said: please enter a valid location. enter your zip code or city and state to check this item's availability at your nearest target stores. zip code:
So they might have pulled it from search... I do recall a few of the stores locally that said it was in stock, maybe I'll swing by anyways.

i just picked up one of these at target. The guy in electronics knocked off 15% off of 890.98 bringing it down to $757. The use of the target redcard brought it down to $722. Tax in nevada is roughly 8% bringing the tv back up to about $780 and some change out the door. My tv came with the internet dongle, remote, stand, instruction manual/paper work so it is complete. i hooked it up and immediately was asked to update the settings when it went it connected to the net. Though my build date in the back says june 2011. Should i be prepared to call panasonic to switch out whatever they have to switch out in case of fluctuating brightness? Is my model safe or is it one of the ones that need to get fixed.

June 2011 build date means there is a good chance it will develop the fluctuating brightness, but it may be patched. I'd call Panasonic and ask them about it.

Just got the Panasonic TC-P55ST30 55" Plasma for $560 out the door (dpci 008-09-1256)...
Was at a different Target earlier but they only offered a 15% discount for a display and it was missing everything so never got it and ended up at this Target where the clearance tv's were already laying flat near the other tv's so got it! Only missing the wifi dongle and the 2 poles for the stand. If anyone has the 2 poles for the stand let me take them off your hand.
edit 5/16/12: went back to target and they found the wifi stick only and what they thought was the stand poles I needed, unfortunately, the poles are for a different tv...I will be going back tomorrow to see if they found the correct part.
edit 5/20/12: well, went back several days later and they found the missing poles for the stand and also got the wifi dongle without expecting it...Now I got everything!!
btw, they still had a display Phillips ($747-30%off) and one in a box ($747).

Not sure why you are buying at these prices. Last summer, the Sony 55 inch dropped as low as $552.04 before the additional % off discount. And there were plenty of people still getting the 20 and 30% off after that. Control yourselves!!

I found a TC-P55ST30 at a Target outside Sandusky OH. It had been the display and was missing everything except the remote, must have gotten thrown out with the box. It was sitting on the floor behind the electronics sales counter. After speaking with several powerless but very polite salespeople the "pricing manager" (this is the person you need to talk with at Target) came over. She REALLY wanted to rid her area of this huge panel behind the counter. After some back and forth it was decided; $500, then opening a REDcard gave me another 5% off. Thats $475 out the door. They wrapped it in bubble wrap and it fit in my SUV just fine between the front and rear seats. The receipt did not indicate non-returnable or open stock (part of the negotiations) which is important.
When I got home called Panasonic customer support and told them my TV was missing parts. They took my info and wanted to see a fax of the receipt to make sure it was not open stock or non-returnable. Got the parts a couple days ago and the TV is great. I need to calibrate and complete the network set up. For the price it is unbeatable.
