Good deal!
But honest opinion - HTC sucks. better Get a Samsung.

Stupid generic empty rhetoric

I preordered yesterday from Wirefly for $150. Their preorder pricematch guarantee says that they automatically provide the lower price for preorders within 30 days of placing the preorder. I printed the page with the current pricing, in case I have to bicker for it... Thanks for the info, OP!

It won't ship until May 18. Here's a (p)review:

I agree, but I'll give a little more detail.

Of all the smartphones that my wife and I have owned, HTC is the only brand that has given us significant trouble. That happens with complicated technology, but the warranty process with HTC is just unforgivable. We bought the phones legitimately, but when we sent in two within one year for warranty service, it wound up taking 6 weeks to get them back each time due to waiting for "exceptions" and "escalations." In the meantime they kept offering to take our money in exchange for repairs which were eventually covered for free under warranty.

The whole episode left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will never buy another HTC product again.

HTC products are OK, but I don't think they're worth the warranty risk tbh. Samsung, another company we've had one warranty claim with, is like clockwork--no problems at all with warranty service and got the phone back within a week.

I'd love to pull the trigger on this phone - but I have an old SERO account. From what I understand I can buy this phone on Wirefly, but because the SERO plan isn't compatible there may be an issue during activation. The SERO team at Sprint have the option to active that phone, then merge that phone onto the SERO plan - but from what I've read Wirefly may not be happy with that and you may have additional charges down the line because of it.

Just wanted to give others a heads up. If this information is incorrect I'd love to know, because saving $80 would make me a happy camper.

If I convert my existing account to family plan with Wirefly, will I loose the employee discounts that's already on there?

optical said:   If I convert my existing account to family plan with Wirefly, will I loose the employee discounts that's already on there?

you can probably request it again. I upgraded mine through Wirefly and hope the discount stays. If not, I'll have to call to have it reinstated, but it should be automatic this day and age

anyway to get the activation charge waived? $36 is hefty.

optical said:   anyway to get the activation charge waived? $36 is hefty.

No. You can thank Sprint's iPhone subsidy.

But keep in mind that $36 represents less than 5% of the full retail price of the device.

Honestly though, I would suggest taking over someone's Verizon LTE plan with unlimited data. Great VZW LTE phones are on CowBoom for $99 now. Comparable ones in the low $200s (like ICS-ready Droid Bionic).

Wirefly has free Sprint activation through the 10th.

So, how do you get it? Shows up in cart?

Silent23 said:   Wirefly has free Sprint activation through the 10th.

Not sure, but there is a banner at the top of the homepage advertising it with a countdown timer.

I've called customer service more than once about activation fees and they've always waived them for me.

I can literally choose whatever phone I want from any carrier at any time through my company. I've been carrying an HTC EVO 4G for the last 18 months because I like it so much. For one thing, I am a fan of the Sense UI. And yes, I've had iPhone and Windows Mobile and Blackberry, and a Samsung Epic 4G (which was a good phone, but the GPS was notoriously bad), but I keep coming back to the EVO and HTC. The EVO 4G LTE is the replacement I've been waiting for.

No, those will transfer over automatically.

I just couldn't help but put my two cents in on this one... I have managed a Sprint service center for years. That is we repair phones at our location. Every now and again we get a customer with a legitimate manufacture defect who does not have insurance and has no choice but to send the phone back to the manufacture. Between the two companies HTC has consistently completed the repair process faster than Samsung and when I say consistently I'm talking about thousands of repairs over the last 7 years.

For those using Wirefly to do whats known as a "gifted upgrade" which is when your phone is not eligible so you use another line on the account to upgrade your own...

Wirefly will charge $400 to whatever card you used to make the purchase if you chose to do this within six months of the purchase.

You can read about this policy at the bottom of this page from the Wirefly website.

Has Sprint started rolling out their LTE network?

adam-i-am said:   Oh and FYI... This deal for $119.99 is ONLY for creating a new account or adding a new line to an existing account. Otherwise Wirefly charges $149.99 for an upgrade.

What? I didn't get that at all... I extended the contract on my existing line and got the $119.99 price. Ended up being $125 with tax. Apparently Wirefly collects tax someplaces but not others...

Ummm. No. I got my receipt. Clearly says upgrade. Says $119.99

It seems Sprint is still promising to have actual LTE service by mid-2012, but only for selected markets (Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, and San Antonio): www.sprint.com/landings/lte/index.html

Yo Kristopher Waite,

Can I visit you in S, Texas to hunt pigs with you?

Will I get 4G if LTE not avail?

My mistake... When I clicked add to cart I had forgotten to select the upgrade type.

I've had to send my HTC HD2 in for repairs of the digitizer just over one year (~13 months) after I purchased it. HTC ended up fixing the phone for free even though I thought it was out of warranty, and I had it back in about a week after they received the phone. I was really impressed with their services!

Just ordered, but the $36 activation fee gets automatically added despite what their 'Free activation promotion' says. I contacted their support through chat and the guy gave me the runaround saying I couldn't get the promotion since I had already ordered and when I told him I saw the deal while I was ordering, he said the HTC EVO LTE discounts could not be combined with the free activation offer... but then I went onto the site and added a random Sprint phone to cart and again the activation fee was automatically added. But he just kept going back to the fact that the discounts from the HTC EVO LTE preorder cannot be combined with the Free activation offer... BS. Will try again later when I call in.

Bitter truth! but that's a fact - HTC owners.

I have one line that is eligible for upgrade but I want this phone for another line. Does anyone know if I need to keep this phone on the purchasing number for a certain time?

I don't know of anyone who has successfully ordered a SERO phone through Wirefly...pretty much your only option at this point is Sprint through their telesales dept; maybe BB or Sprint.com.

Yeah, I was wondering about this... I have SERO, and was itching to ge my hands on the EVO 4G LTE as my Touch Pro 2 is getting a bit long in the tooth. At $120, I'd jump on this, but I'm wondering what is involved in getting in on the deal with Wirefly and upgrading to Sprint Premium + Evo (4G) tax... So... not possible?

I called (FW rules have exceptions) and was told free activation applied to new accounts/lines, not phone upgrades.

They also tried selling me a car charger, leather case, screen protector, phone insurance, tech service, and a charger/case/protector package.

DO NOT CALL unless you have a lot of extra time to spare.

Stupid generic empty rhetoric

I realize this is far from scientific, but I've owned 2 HTC phones over the past 5 years and somewhat-recently made the switch from an HTC Evo 4G to a Samsung Epic 4G Touch. The Android purists crap on TouchWiz, Samsung's proprietary GUI on top of otherwise mostly stock Android, but it really isn't bad.

Further, Samsung products just 'feel' generally better put-together and thus far this Galaxy S II has been far more dependable than the HTC Evo 4G it replaced.

So my friend just pre-ordered the HTC One LTE, and he's all hot and bothered. But I drool over the Samsung Galaxy S III. Once you go to an AMOLED screen there seriously is no turning back. Just stunning contrast and clarity.

Can anyone who's done an upgrade process with Wirefly/Sprint comment on when the new device is actually activated?

Is it activated upon delivery? Do you have to call in some # to remove your old phone from the account and add the new one? Can you activate yourself on Sprint's website?

According to the rep I spoke with at Wirefly, she said the system automatically activates the phone within 24 hours of delivery. I know in the past with Amazon upgrades, I had to call in a number to get the device added to my account and the old one removed. This makes sense. With Wirefly, what if you're out of town or not there when it's delivered... Does service to your existing device get cutoff???? can't be.

To activate you have to call Wirefly or chat online with agents. Wirefly had a warning on the phone's box "Do not call Sprint to activate"

^^Why not?

nice price - I've been debating all day, want to pull the trigger, but am hoping Sprint will have a version of the galaxy note soon, this is just so tempting.

windowshopping said:   To activate you have to call Wirefly or chat online with agents. Wirefly had a warning on the phone's box "Do not call Sprint to activate"

I can tell you that the ONLY reason they say that is so they get paid their commission. If you call Sprint to activate it and they don't use the Wirefly agent code when activating believe it or not Wirefly could end up eating the cost of the phone.

Skipping 61 Messages...

I was wondering the same. Screen are getting bigger and bigger and certainly not so comfortable with the pockets. But, that's the trend these days! The "huge" iphone display 3.5" is almost obsolete.
