Anyone have experience shooting this? I am just starting to look for a 12 gauge for home defense and am not sure what to get. I have been seeing a lot of deals for the different variations of the Mossberg 500, but want to be certain it is a good one. I've been talking with some of the guys at our range and none of them has shot one. Any input on these would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you don't like the shoulder stock, you could always swap it out for a pistol grip. The 500 line is basically all the same except for the furniture and finish. I like ghost ring sights, but that is just personal preference. The shotgun itself will function the same no matter which version you get.
My husband bought the 20 gauge version with pistol grip as a Christmas gift for me this past year. I wanted a home defense shotgun and since I'm a very small female, he felt I would be more comfortable with the 20 gauge. I love it. It is fun to shoot and easy to maintain. No problems with it so far.

Would there be any advantage to getting the kit that came with both the 18" and 28" barrels? Just wondering because the kit also comes with the pistol grip. Here is the one I'm talking about Bud's. Thanks!

The 28" barrel adds the ability to take it out hunting or shooting trap. Looks like a decent deal.

I have the 12 gauge shotgun and love it. 8+1 requires some muscle so if you don't have much, get a recoil reduction stock
