I'm not certain this is worth it. Aren't there a lot of other options to get similar results (htpc-like setup, or even a wifi router for the analog aspect?)

I truly thought $999 was a misprint of $99 at first. I can't imagine who's spending $1000 to stream music to their stereo these days.

Agreed..has good reviews on Amazon..but...it sure seems pricey for a large majority of "normal" users.

Go to Newegg....buy PC for $250 on special....

pocket $750 and get same results

This is the normal price in the Logitech VIP store.

Those into high end audio find the Transporter to be worth the $.

I personally would buy a Squeezebox Touch.

The value of this unit is in the very high quality digital to analog converter (DAC) in it. You can use this as a standalone DAC bypassing the streamer. I was very lucky to obtain one of these units for $300 (my wife would kill me if I spent $1000 on audio equipment). I acutally find the audio quality of the streamer portion to be average (even with FLAC), but I do use it at times to drive whole house audio (you can do all kinds of cool stuff with squeezeboxes like take 3 of them and sync the music). The way that I currently listen to audio is to use an HTPC with J River media center, Creative EMU sound card. I send the SPDIF output from the EMU to the Transporter's DAC. I use ASIO to send the audio to the sound card unmangled by windows.

I must say that prior to having the transporter, I would never have considered spending this much on a piece of audio equipment, but now that I have it I can say that I really do enjoy listening to music passed through this thing. My previous setup passed the EMU's SPDIF output to the receiver directly (DENON AVR-991) and it really is night and day when you substitute the transporter for the Denon's DAC.
