Amazon.com has a few pieces at this price and then it goes to $42.95 which is still a great deal considering that this item is selling for $100+ at major retailers. The cheapest price that I found for this outside of Amazon was $99.99 at Buy.com

$50 is about the norm for device for TV streaming. And with 3 star reviews. I would not say it is worth it.

Agreed...looks like a dollar or two more from other sellers. OP comparing this to $100+ from "major" retailers is silly.

A few points:
1- $40 is substantially less that $50 - 20% less to be precise.
2- The only decent streaming media player in the $50 range is the Roku LT and that is out of stock almost everywhere and is going for $80 on Amazon. The other Rokus are $70 and up. The revue was discontinued and is now $150 and up. The Western Dig is $100 give or take. The Slingbox is $250. Apple TV is $100.
3- Based on all that, I'm gonna have to still say that $40 is an incredible price.

Yes, I mentioned that other sellers have it for a few bucks more... And they are priced well too!

Then..as previously discussed...if the going market rate is around $39-$42....$39.99 is not a hot deal.

How do you determine "going market rate"?

I suppose if the lowest price on Amazon determined the going market rate then you are correct. But there are "Hot Deals" on FW all the time from Amazon.
If all major retailers are $100 and up - including Buy.com, Newegg, Ant Online, Tiger Direct, Sears, Solid Signal, CompuPlus and many others - then I would say that the going market rate is more than what the lowest price on Amazon is.

Also note that Amazon themselves is selling this item at $48, the $40 price is from marketplace sellers. So this price really is great.

Sorry you didn't convince me yet. I think this is a smoking hot deal!!

Glad you do...most would not.

We have went over going market rate before in your posts....and it's still quite simple.

If, in this case, it is offered in-stock from multiple Amazon sellers, for the same price (or a trivial difference)..it's the "going market rate"..for Fat Wallet purposes.

Given this is also the older model..it falls further down the deal scale.

Bought this for $30 and returned it to Buy.com. Doesn't play MKV files with the H.264 audio encoding while the WD TV live does it all. Don't waste your time with this. FYI, bought a WDTV Live PLUS for $50 shipped on eBay and it is great!

Okay.... So let's say the "going market rate" (GMR) is defined as you defined it -and I will give you that since you're the senior member here- why can a price not be the GMR and hot deal too? Does a hot deal by definition mean that the price must be lower than the GMR?
See, there are only several dozen pieces left at the mentioned price (which you decided is going market rate) and they are the lowest price on earth by a substantial amount, so whether or not the price is currently the GMR is irrelevant, the fact remains that the price is HOT!!!

I think your right aceskings....it's not all about GMR. Things can have other intrinsic qualities that make them hot even above list price...however, I believe the point here is nobody is hoping up and down excited about these boxes, even at a lower price by a few bucks. I think yours was a fine post but you just have to accept the community response and move on to the next deal. If others find the item hot, they will jump on it and greens will start flowing.

Agreed on all points... I was just having some fun

Not really...but I do like the acronym you gave my word.

The whole hype/collector "intrinsic" qualities you talk about are for different discussion thread/time.

In this case, the item is available from multiple sellers, for the same general price and in-stock (along with just warm reviews)..so no hot deal. It is really no different than any item in a B+M store. If you can pick it up for same price most days of the week, it's not a hot deal. If though they are offering an item for a few hours/days only, at a greatly reduced price...then it's a hot deal. These are obviously simplified examples...but I think you get the point.
