What's even better is that when 2013 version comes out in a month or 2 you get an automatic free update.

You can always have a free update. As long as you have an unexpired Product Key, you can download the latest version and it will be good until your key expires (which is a year from the key's first activation, not your registration with Symantec). This year I used a Key from 2009 NAV that worked just fine (never previously activated).

That's what I said, but with fewer words.

Can someone link the rebate form? Software is listed as "$0.00 after rebate" in search results, but product page only shows $40, with no reference or link to rebate form like Newegg usually does.

edit: oops... link is in OP. It is odd that they don't mention rebate on the product page, though. Maybe just haven't updated page yet (??)

As a computer tech for many years i have seen more virus infected computers with norton installed than any others

The text you describe "$0.00 after mail-in rebate card " is a link, click on it and you get a message that includes the rebate form.

No, that was search results for "Symantec 2012," which included the subject software as well as others. When I clicked on the specific product, the mention of rebate disappeared. It was simply $40.00 without the typical rebate link in the product. The rebate link is now there... I was trying to buy before they had a chance to put the rebate link on the page.

Norton increases my boot time by 20 seconds! It is sluggish and the scan takes ages to complete.

do a clean install and stop whining

Any one knows the difference between "3 user" and "1 User Version,Product Key can Activate 3 Times" (selling at eBay)?
Thanks!

Thanks!

3-user allows... wait for it... _3_ users of the product. 1-user is for _1_. So, if you have 3 computers, you can either buy one 3-user license, or 3 1-user licenses to be legal.

in for 1, thanks!

Very good find! Thank you.

Not bad deal, thanks for sharing that.

Is Microsoft Security Essential not enough? It's free to download. That's what I have been using. Did anyone here use MSE and still get a virus?

bosbeemer said:   Is Microsoft Security Essential not enough? It's free to download. That's what I have been using. Did anyone here use MSE and still get a virus?YES. I have machines that come in all the time with MSSE with viruses. For a while, they were all the variations of those fake antivirus programs that looked similar enough to MSSE to trick a few unsuspecting users.

My records indicate I've had 11 PCs over the past 2 years with a variation of that virus. 2 of the users actually put in their CC details thinking it's legit. 1 user was able to cancel their debit card before it was too late, the other had to file tons of paperwork.

My records indicatae 1 PC infected with this virus with Norton 2011 or 2012, and it was much earlier on. Don't get me wrong - MSSE is good protection and "good enough" for most users.
