the deal here is for the previous gen (Sandy Bridge i5), and the deal you refer to is an even earlier generation (Core 2 Duo). what you pay for is what you get. Please, no apple tax flames here. There is an Apple tax, and some think it is worth it, some don't and let's leave it at that.

No it is not. The OP is a newer gen with core i5 and ddr3. The deal you are referring to is a much older core 2 duo with ddr2 memory, among other things. Personally, I think these are both over priced for what they are.

That is the worst deal I have seen in a while. Buy an Acer and save 70%, for a very similar pc laptop except you have to keep it plugged in because the battery life sucks. The screen resolution is a little lower but most wouldn't even notice the difference. I feel sorry for anyone that pays $1000 for a $400 product and knowingly exploits foreign workers.

Really? It's almost too perfect and sounds like a deliberate troll versus a truly clueless individual.
Should this actually have been a real response from someone clueless: There's nothing $400 about the MacBook Air and where do you think that "similar" laptop was built? At least Apple has been transparent about their factory conditions and attempted to improve them.

i don't suppose you've ever owned an apple device before.
you'll see how detail oriented and quality controlled Apple has put into their products, and it shows through out their entire product line...if you owned one. don't hate on something that you have no experience with.

For students, the 13" MacBook Air starts at $1149 and I'd recommend the $90 cost for 8 GB RAM upgrade, which is not user-installable.
I got this latest Macbook Pro for $999 at my local best buy in Lansing, MI. I asked about price match for Apple $100 student discount and $100 itunes card and they offered to reduce $200 when i was ready to walk out of the store.

I just picked up the i7 1.8GHz Macbook Air from the Apple Refurbished Store for $1199. I must say that although it is very expensive, the build quality is impeccable. The large track pad with Lion gestures is awesome. First laptop I have ever used where I don't feel like a need a mouse. I am loving this laptop. I totally understand people not wanting to spend $1000 on a laptop but this thing is beautiful and will be great to use for years to come.

I dont think it is newest ivy bridge. The new i7 is not std but configured for $1599. Btw best buy is denying matching itune gift card though
