I have a Galaxy Tab 2 (7" Tablet), and also a cheap non-smartphone w/o data plan (I don't want to pay data plan prices).
Would there be any benefit to having a smartphone like this one to mate to the Tablet (via Bluetooth I suppose), or for any other reason, considering the fact that I'd not pick up a data plan?
Forgive me if I sound uneducated, but in this case, I guess I am.

Android does not tether well via Bluetooth, you would be better off tethering over Wi-Fi.
There are many options with Android prepaid phones and tethering in the United States. I would not suggest this phone for that purpose.
This phone was sold largely overseas, in areas where you would need multiple carrier SIMs to have low-cost service (one for voice, one for data for example). WARNING, THIS PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT US 3G FREQUENCIES. IT WILL ONLY FUNCTION AS A 2G PHONE HERE.

We live on the border and go back and forth between US and Canada all the time. Something like this would be very convenient, but the majority of dual sims is geared to China, India, etc. Would be nice to have more options here
