I got this latest Macbook Pro for $999 at my local best buy in Lansing, MI. I asked about price match for Apple $100 student discount and $100 itunes card and they offered to reduce $200 when i was ready to walk out of the store. Good Luck.

Note sure why members are marking this as negative, getting $200 off a new Macbook model is still a good deal. My friend in Texas was able to get the same Macbook for $200 less.

I've decided to transition to Apple, after many years on PCs. I'll still keep my desktop pc, but Apple's ecosystem is too tempting. It just works really well straight out of the box. I looked into the soon-to-be released retina display laptops, and decided that the current MacBook Pros are a better fit for my needs. The retina display models carry USB 3.0 and higher rez, but no longer carry a dvd/cd drive. I don't care for the drive, instead i'll be using the space for an extra inexpensive hdd. The SSD will carry both operating systems (Win 7 and Lion), and the hhd all my files and programs. You would need an astronomically expensive retina display model to fit all my programs and files. It is expensive as it is.

If you order via the apple website... you can use your discover card to get 5% off the educational price... Sell the $100 itunes card on eBay... for 90 bucks perhaps (after fees etc)...
And get into this machine for $950 plus tax... This was great when they had a free printer / ipod touch... Used to upgrade every year for maybe 100 bucks... after selling the old one for 800... or 750...
New mac, new warranty... for the cost of depreciation...

This machine is not the new form factor, and does not have the retina display not that you stated it did just clarifying for others.
Red is likely because its for Apple, fairly well established that there is no such thing as a good deal on their products. They are always overpriced on the biggest sale they offer, but if you want one you want one.

It is true that this laptop is not the same form-factor as the retina MBP, but this is the latest 13inch model with USB3 and Ivy Bridge i5 processor and HD4000 integrated graphic.
If you can pull it off, this is an extremely good deal.I wish I had known about this deal before I ordered mine. I am also going to use the Hard Disk caddy to put the stock 500GB drive where superdrive is and put a nice SSD as the main boot - (Lion and Windows 7 or 8). Using a external enclosure for the superdrive to use it if I need it.

This is pretty much the deal I got today at Best Buy. I got a quote on the Apple site using the educator discount for an new 8gb/500gb 2012 MacbookPro and asked for a price match. They didn't have an 8gb model, so they upgraded the RAM at a lower price than Apple would, gave me the $100 discount, plus a $100 Best Buy gift card. I was out the door with an 8gb MacBook Pro and the $100 gift card for $1059.99 plus tax. (also got upgraded from 18 month to 36 month financing 0%) Receipt attached.

I don't know why people are marking this negative... The 13.3" does not come in a retina but was updated to ivy bridge.. Although Microcenter typically has the 13" ins store for 999. It's their unadvertised special but they always have it. I got mine last year for 999, upgraded the ram from MacMall to 16gb and got a 256 ssd... Wife is still using it and
