3 year old tech...but it will run windows 8.

I can see a Pentium-M equivalent "running" Win8 at 800 MHz. Have fun...

I can understand your skepticism, but if it will run Vista it will run Window 8 easily.

FYI: I bought this when they sold it the first time. It is an Italian model and takes a lot of work to get it all working in English. It is pretty portable once you get everything working. I have windows 7 running on it. Not the fastest, but you can connect anywhere with it with gsm or wifi G. It is a resistive screen, but good for writing on with windows 7.

Oh, and you can get voice calling working on this device with certain roms, but it is through speaker only. Also, there is a gps in it too and works with google maps or whatever gps program that runs on windows mobile or windows. I think it was worth the $200 myself.

Saw a few 1.8" ZIF SSDs out there. Pricey, but I bet it would be quick and of course the battery would last longer etc. And they start at 64Gig looks like. Not that I want to spend the money on this, but still. I bet it would be pretty good with an SSD.

How's the battery life and display on these things for watching videos, would it last a couple hours/airplane ride?

What data plan does it require to use 3G?

I have unlimited data but do not have tethering enabled.

Last time I tried to use my sim with an 'unlocked' modem on a PC and got a warning email from T-Mobile.

Resolution is poor!
800x480 is good for my phone with 3.7" display, not for a 7" tablet to run windows.

my htc shift x9500 works well with genuine windows 7 and ms office with outlook. it serves me well until today. got no problems with it it. win update. it can make calls, sms, e-mail, gps. it is a wonderful product. easy to carry too! installed free office for android too! it is also fun to use...enjoy!
