Better deal is with the dock IMHO. It normally sells for $99 separately.

Best deal on Transformer I've seen yet.

Anyone know if the Android 3.0 version can be upgraded to the new Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0)?

Yeah, it's upgradable to ICS, but this price is a meh

I'm not too sure about price being meh, but if you've seen a better price elsewhere, I'd love to know where and how to get one.

The dock makes this a 15-hour tab, supposedly, and has HDMI ... I want one, but I just got a Galaxy Tab 2 7" ... maybe I'll sell it and trade up to this. hrmmm

Is it a free upgrade to ICS?

Have seen better for the tablet alone new, but it's the best price I've seen with keyboard dock.
I've been running ICS on it for a few months.
Good thing about Asus is they have update very frequently.

Yes. It automatically notifies you that the update is available and you just click to update. I've been putting it off because there were some problems early on but I think most of them have been resolved. See the Asus Transformer forums for more info...

It's actually very annoying to NOT update to ICS, the update message keeps popping up, I was wanting to keep the TF101 running Android 3.0 because I read about some problems TF101 has running ICS, but eventually, I did update to ICS and found it's fairly stable (has one random reboot last month), but so far, so good.

I just find the $219 deal, where is the $319 deal?

this is pretty hot for essentially an extremely slim tablet with the keyboard/dock. Coworker has one, great device/appliance. He did a lot of work on his to get it turned into a real laptop , i.e. with ssh, and all the normal linux tools installed.

You click buy and you see your 4 options

Is this the one that had gps problems they had to fix with an external dongle?

Nope, that's the Transformer Prime.

I've had the TF101 + keyboard for almost a year.

If you get the TF101, you should get the keyboard dock too. The combination is what makes this tablet stand out among the competition.

If you haven't tried typing an email on a standard tablet, try it out at the store. Then try the Transformer keyboard. It's not as good as a standard PC keyboard, but it's much superior to typing on a tablet. The dock also has mini-HDMI out, SD slot, and a USB slot, in addition to the extra battery. I'd guess that I can get 15 hours of life playing games and watching videos with the dock. Plus you don't really need a case or stand if you get the dock.

Asus pushes firmware updates out automatically (including ICS). I did have tons of trouble with the original ICS update (and the next two patches), and had to wait 2-3 months for Asus to finally fix the problem, but Asus did finally solve the problem. Right now, I have an annoying "update your firmware" nag screen that keeps popping up. After the ICS debacle, I am afraid to update until I see more evidence that no major problems have been introduced.

tk149 - I just updated to the latest ICS update pushed by Asus (9.2.1.27 release notes) and it's been stable. I had a similar experience as you, the first few ICS releases had freeze/reboot problems. Turns out many of the problems stemmed from a bug in Deep Sleep mode which Asus fixed by the 3rd ICS update. It's running super stable for me.

should mention refurb in the title!
