For those that don't know:
RAID0: Total Capacity: (size of smallest drive) * (number of drives) Advantages: fast Disadvantages: If you lose one disk, you lose ALL of the data
RAID1: Total Capacity: ((Size of smallest drive) * (number of drives))/2 Advantages: if one disk fails (not all that uncommon), you don't lose any data Disadvantages: you essentially get half the capacity of your hard disks.
You need at least 3 disks for RAID5, and at least 4 disks for RAID6, which interweave parity data amonst the disks to prevent one drive from taking down the entire array of disks, while optimizing total disk space.
