This is unlike most other gun safes in that it will flip open like a secured 'holster' of sorts.

Personally, I find the idea more useful than a gunsafe in-a-box, like many other versions seem to offer.

Indeed, that is a good price. I posted the Optics deal simply because it seemed cheaper than most, and stumbled upon it on their site.

Any personal experience with it? I'm most curious if its a slow, soft opening action or a 'bang-clank' of a spring loaded action?

I'd want something pretty silent, and I've already read that you can silence the audio beeps on this unit if so inclined.

EDIT: I think I found my own answer to the above. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcis6JZ76zY

I have the non bio version of it and it pops open pretty vigorously. The nice thing is it opens toward your palm, so you can kind of catch it to keep it quiet.

Edit: Mine is the older version, the GD-1000.

Somehow this doesn't seem like a product I would want biometric security on. If your finger is hurt it wouldn't open at all.

Many of these biometric safes are terrible, you really should only rely on one if you do not have children in the household.
