don't know about these GPS units are so cheap and so much better at this type of stuff,, laptop heavy to carry around in auto and who want gps with it when you can do other things.. a dieing breed I think

Agreed. Given the price of new (or even quality refurb GPS units) sales that I have seen lately. Minus a very small part of the population..it makes little sense to get this over a stand-alone unit.

but for off roading this is pretty good since many folks use laptops/tablets for bringing up topo maps.
However, Staples has Sales Tax for many. Amazon does not.

I used to use $60 bluetooth GPS receiver paired with MS Streets and Trips on laptop for road trips about 8 eight years ago, when the standalone GPS were way more expensive. Yes, it's a super big navigator but got the job done and more, and when tethered with my data phone, I could get road condition updates. Now I mostly use preloaded map on my phone.
