The purchased Gift cards you can use at ANY location. The free Gift cards you can only use at Bedford MA or Framingham MA

They offer a variation of this in Sarasota, FL. Buy a GC for $100 and get two $25 certificates. You cannot use the $100 GC to pay for dinner when you purchase it as it doesn't become effective until Jan 1, 2013, The $25 certificates expire on June 30, 2013 and can only be used at the three west Florida locations. Also, they must be used separately. Thus, it requires 4 visits to the restaurant to make full use of this not too good "deal".
