What paper , LA Times most likely ???

There is a Filtrete topic that has the link for the 1500 and higher rebate, thanks to momoman: Filtrete rebate

*NVM, found the $6 one for MPR 1000

BTW, I am testing the theory that you can get the rebate on multi-packs. They ask for the proof of purchase, which doesn't include the UPC.

It's from the Smartsource coupon pack. I got one today in the Wall St. Journal.

Found the printable $12 rebate HERE .

*Added the rebate link to the thread summary .

Added note : Lowes has $2 off on most 2paks , good till 2/3/13 , BUT it seems multi-paks are only considered a single unit purchase according to the rebate form .

Just an FYI ... these are NOT recommended for many A/C systems (mine included). They restrict air flow too much and cause premature system failures. I (personally) was told by the company that installed my new A/C system NOT to use these filters for that reason.

I agree somewhat , but I find the 1000/1050 or lower models are fine , but above the 1000's I may agree . I actually have a Filtrete 1900 that I won on their FB page awhile back , and can tell ya I'll never use do to it being possibly so restrictive .

Target has these on sale for $9.99 til close today (Sat.). Picked up 4 of the 1000 model. Furnace repairmen recommend the 1000 ones but not the higher allergen. The higher allergen filters need to be replaced every month or you'll have to call a furnace repairman like I did & that was the problem!!

We have been using the 1500 filters in our furnace for years. Never had a problem, knock on wood. I change the filter every 3 months and it's pretty darn dirty by then.

It depends entirely on the design of the whole forced air system. If the filter is too restrictive, your blower won't move enough cool (return) air through the heat exchanger to keep pace with the burner, so the exchanger gets too hot and its high-limit switch will shut down the burner early (short cycle).

If you use a setback thermostat, it can take forever for the furnace to recover / heat the home back to the warmer setting, because your burner is lit only intermittently. Brr! Meanwhile, your furnace fan runs and runs...

I think these filters are for 720 hours or 3 months (based on 8 hour use/day). My programmable thermostat calculates actual filter usage and provides info when furnace has run for 720 hours. Most times it is over 4 months.

I think you can buy the 3-pack from Sam's Club or Costco cheaper than buying 4 individual ones AR.

3-pack from Sam's Club

3-pack from Sam's Club

Can try HD or Lowe's with $10 off $50 coupons as well. Do not know if that would be more cost effective than Costco/Sam's Club.

Fred Meyer (NW stores, part of Kroger chain) has the RED (1000 MPR) Filtrete filters on sale for $7.99 this week. You may have to hit up one of the larger FM stores, as the one in our city doesn't normally stock these. If you pick these up on Tuesday, you'll get an additional 10% of if you're 55 or older

Another option is to price-match at Home Depot. Final cost for 4 filters (after the $12 rebate) will be $20, or $5 each.

Correct. The filter is to protect the machine (HVAC) not you. The best, IMO, are the cheapest pleated ones. You can get these in 3packs at Lowes/HD/etc...

The more restrictive filters make the equipment work harder and can reduce the efficiency.
