I got the canon version back in December when it was $349 and thought it was smoking hot then... now it's $289 Free ship and 2% BH rewards
This lens only works on Crop sensor cameras (won't work on a canon 5D)
I have it on a 40D and it's way way way better than my Nifty Fifty (50mm f/1.8) better focus, wider angle and sharper... and a very solid build too. Sucks that it's $60 cheaper just a month and a half later... but those are the breaks!
I was going to use my 2% reward (emailed to me a few weeks after I bought the lens) from my lens purchase to get this UV Filter/protector for the lens when I saw the price dropped on the lens itself. Seems to get pretty decent reviews.

The Pentax mount has been OOS for a couple of days. Too bad, because I've been eye balling this lens for awhile now.

I managed to get my order in before it went OOS but even then, B&H said that it will ship in 7-10 days. I am guessing that they are counting on receiving more inventory from Sigma, and that may not happen. Those who got in early were lucky.
Reviews vary. It seems that some copies of Sigma lenses are not so good. Just Google "Sigma lottery" and you will see what that means.

Does the Sony Alpha version have the an internal focusing motor? they usually don't (and charge the same)

Just tried mine with 10 shots or so in the yard - with very uninteresting lighting. Seems to focus perfectly. Depth of field is from "Basically none" to "deep" Should be fun to play with. I own a Canon 50mm 1.4 and suspect I may sell that one - more tests later.

I just noticed this online and didn't realize this already had been posted. I, too, bought mine for $349 in December and agree that this is a smoking-hot deal. I wish I could go back in time and save $60, although I did get some great photos with it this past holiday season.

anybody here have an opinion on how this compared to the Nikon 35mm f1.8? Other than the obvious (one f-stop), any specifics from actual usage? Thanks

I paid slightly over $400 for this lens so this is a great deal. Forget about going the path of lottery. If you don't have a sharp copy on your first, I advise you to take in your DSLR along with your new 30mm lens to get it calibrated together at their service center in New York. You will appreciate their fast turn around time and spot on focus post calibration. If you're gonna use this lens primarily for portrait type setting (background and subject separation, i.e. bokeh) then you will love it. If your main use will be for landscape photography look elsewhere. Center focus is decent, but even stopped down edge focus is nothing to write home about.
