seems like a great deal for basic monochrome laser printer (no wireless/duplex), but if you dont need those two, i dont think there is any other basic laser printer for less anywhere (if so, please say so where)
i currently have a brother HL-2140 and thinking of getting this instead of buying replacement toner for it (costs around $40), i'm afraid that perhaps i am not just running out of toner but drum too...
what do you guys think of this deal?

As the OP pointed out, no duplexing and that is such a handy feature, that also saves a bunch of paper. This is the time of year when big box office stores clearance their printers. You might find a laser model close to this price and with duplexing at your local B&M of OD, OM or Staples.

Brother printers are one of the cheapest to own. I wouldn't simply throw out your brother printer as I own the same one HL-2140. I'm only on the first remanufactured toner cartridge but so far, its performing just as good as the original starter cartridge. Meritline usually has deals for these toners every week or two and usually run about $18 or as low as $15 shipped. I would encourage you to use remanufactured ink in it till its done as its very cheap for cost to print this way.

thanks for your feedback. i had read some unfavorable reviews on non-brother replacement toners, so was afraid of going that route....
did you just get one from Meritline like this one:
(i thought of doing a private message,but didn't do thinking if other FW members could benefit from this discussion).

I've used Meritline's replacement (not Brother OEM) toner cartridges on my 2140 for several years and never had a problem...there are also good deals on Amazon for these--just read the reviews carefully.
Also, the printer is available here for $49 with free shipping I can't vouch for the company...
