Seems to be purchase only.

Did you want to rent, lease it instead?

Reading is fundamental !

"Purchase a Blue Rhino propane tank, with or without exchanging an empty tank, at your local participating Walgreens, between now and 12/31/13."

Locally they are the standard size 20# tank only filled with 15#. You can get refilled at a local propane shop for $12.00 and it will be full.

ditto!

Am curious.
Propane prices vary by area/retailer as does gasoline.
Would others list prices for the both the tank exchange (w/15lb) and separate refill (20lb) for their areas?

No I wouldnt rent but title said " exchange" and I read it as purchase only.

Was wondering the same thing.

Evanston, IL (Chicago suburbs)

Dominicks Blue Rhino
New Tank (Filled) - $49.99
Exchange - $19.99

Walgreens Blue Rhino
New Tank (Filled) - $53.99
Exchange - $21.99

Home Depot
Refill - $18.97
New Tank (Empty) - $29.99

U-Haul
Refill - $3.99 per gallon ($14.36 price compared to the Blue Rhino filling of only 75%)

Based on the math, are I right in assuming 1 gal of Propane weighs 5.6 lbs?

4.2 pounds I believe.

I'm not sure this is still the case, unless they are CLEARLY advertising that the tank is NOT full. They were busted for selling not-full tanks, and paid out a whopping $25,000,000 in class action litigation against them. See http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/arcmessageview.php?catid=24&thre... and http://www.propanesettlement.com/docs/sa.pdf.

I just had my tank filled today @ $3.00 a gal. The guy said prices just dropped this past week from $3.19 a gal. Mid Maryland.

Requires certain disclosures about the net weight of propane in filled cylinder by Blue Rhino for a period of three years: http://www.propanesettlement.com/faq#Q4.

BTW I did this rebate last year and it came in about 5 weeks later. I found an old busted and rusting tank at a friend's junk yard of a house. The tank was in horrible shape, missing the valve, large dent in the side, BB/pellet gun marks all over the rusted surface. Took it to WalMart and the did the Blue Rhino exchange with no problems. I love how much the average WM employee doesn't give a crap about anything.

I can verify with complete certainty that these ARE only filled with 15 pounds of propane - at least the ones at Lowes are. I just swapped mine out yesterday and the tag on the metal enclosure said 15 pound refill (in a 20 pound tank). Zapy is definitely correct that it is not a true "20 pound tank of propane".

Edit: And just in case you doubt me - here it is.....straight from the horses mouth: Blue Rhino website

You mean straight from the Rhino's mouth!

Thanks OP, I'm due for an exchange. Nice that it doesn't expire until end of the year. I grill a lot so everyone I know can expect $3 checks.

Exactly! In other words, the rebate does not apply to an exchange only. The title of the thread needs correcting. (I too was disappointed, as I'm looking to refill/exchange and get on with spring time grilling.)
