Herbals? Ask Steve Jobs how that worked out for him.

Come on, the books are free! Although there is a reason why they are free.

ive been looking into trying valerian root for inconsistent sleep and sleep disturbances and the more knowledge i can acquire the better; the key is looking at dr. deepas sources of information and verifying that they are from peer-reviewed, recent, reputable journals with clear information detailing clinical trials using the scientific method.

i think your post is fantastic, remick; as always, thanks for sharing!

jeffwastaken,

Solving sleep issues is fairly simple.
First the darker the room the better.
Second the cooler the room the better.
Third the fewer clothes the better, preferably nude.
Everyone assumes some magic potion is the key, but they establish self defeating patterns that once removed require zero outside source.
That said there are serious sleep issues which some people suffer.
But the majority is simply too hot and uncomfortable wrapped up like mummies covered in blankets and far too much light bleeding in.

The books are free but your time isn't. If the books ended up causing you harm, as in time wasted or missed opportunity for proper medical treatment, it will cost you dearly.

Melatonin.  More is not better.  ~3mg 60 to 30 minutes before bedtime. adjust dose as necessary.

I started with 4 or 5 mg, did not work, dropped to 3mg, works perfectly!

Melatonin Same experience.
Finally got liquid with dropper.
1-2 mg worked perfectly for me.
Those 5-10 mg pills never worked right.

Ok here is free internet advice, but solid: best remedy for sleep is................ simply pick a wake up time and stick to it EVERY day, even if you had a good or a bad night sleep, and even on Saturdays and Sundays. Your body will auto-regulate in roughly 10-14 days, and you will eventually fall asleep in the evening in the right time with no pills, and no herbs if you stick religiously to your wake up time! AND, have a deep sleep, not a shallow one (that is the real trick to achieve, as you do not need 7-8 hours of deep sleep and can do with less.....) BUT, it has to be deep.....and there are devices (even android apps) to quantify it (Google is your friend). Easy huh???? Yes, and a fairly well-known fact, still underutilized.

Drinking Warm milk(with optional Saffron) will help you sleep better. Calcium in the milk helps it seems. Especially for kids.

Forth, I guess we can not list that one here, the better.
