Stacking codes
It is not possible, by any means, to stack codes at JCPenney.com. You can't use both a free shipping code AND a discount code. You just have to pick the one that saves you the most money and go with one code. Believe me, I'll make a very big deal out of it if this changes or if I ever find a way around it.

Furniture
Codes do NOT work on furniture, unless it is very specifically stated! As of 10/8/2005 it has been 2 1/2 years since ANY code worked with furniture. This includes discount codes AND free shipping codes. This is addressed MANY times throughout the thread, but it continues to be asked constantly. I urge you to read the thread before asking questions.

How to use promotional codes at JCPenney.com:
1. After adding items to your shopping bag, proceed to the shopping bag page. Select "yes" under "Discounts" to indicate that you are using a promotional code.
2. Enter code in the "promotional code" box on the following page. Your discount, if applicable, will be reflected on the order summary page at final checkout in the "Disc Amount" column. If you don't see the discount prior to checkout, you will not receive it.

Many of the codes have the following fine print or something very similar. Make sure to check each code for specifics:

The code needs to be made to work online.I think thats still very possible,IMO its a matter of finding the right quirk in the system to make it work.Its still valid according to the date for the sale.

No, you can only apply one code per order, unfortunately, so you have to maximize your savings by picking the best code for your order.

Update on BIGDEAL 50% code:

I figured out the "secret" to the BIGDEAL code isn't really a secret at all. Here's how JCPenney is allowing the 50% code to work for those it was originally intended (I got this directly from a JCPenney support email):

<< Please retrieve your shopping bag (if you saved it) and proceed with the checkout. At the order summary page, please enter in the special ordering instructions boxes the code name and your validation number and we will be glad to review the order. If there are any problems, we will contact you before the order would be processed. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for shopping JCPenney. >>

So those of you who really got this mailing, now you know how to get the discount to work. For the rest of us, I'm gussing we're SOL.

You have to order using the CATALOG numbers (just finding them online and putting them in the cart will be full price). See the catalog numbers in the post and do a search on that number, and you'll see the discount. >>

No, no code. I just did a search in the field labeled "shop from our catalogs" for catalog number "U740-1240". I put 2 towels of one color in my cart (I chose ivory). When I click on "shopping bag" here is what I see:

product description price qty discount total
JCPenney Bath Towel
Item# U740-1240B IVORY $7.99 ($6.00) $9.98

If you can't get it to work, try removing everything else from your cart first. If that still doesn't work try deleting all cookies, closing your browser and starting again from scratch. This works for ease for me and everyone else I've sent it to, so I am confident you'll be able to get it to work. >>

U catalog codes work but not the RN codes.

I wish I knew. I haven't been able to get that information out of them. (Yet?) It does seem strange how they selectively offer discounts, but I haven't heard from enough people who got the valid offer in the mail to find a pattern.

UPDATE:Aha! I finally got an answer as to how individuals were selected for the BIGDEAL 50% promotion.

I have written to lodge my protest that they reward non-customers while excluding long-time loyal customers from such an offer. I urge everyone to do the same if it strikes you as wrong.

Good deal on the towels assuming the quality is decent. Just ordered some. We'll see how they are.

Yes, during checkout you can select to pick up at the store (catalog desk). But JCPenney still charges "shipping" to pick up at the store (unbelievable to most of us, I am sure!)
