SBC Yahoo DSL Expert Plus Package - $44.99

1.5-3.0 Mbps Downstream
384 Kbps Upstream

Order SBC Yahoo! DSL for a one-year term for $44.99 per month, and receive a $149 SBC Yahoo! DSL Wireless Home Networking kit, $179 laptop Home Networking bundle or a $99 DSL modem, and receive a $99 Instant Credit (taxes and a $12.95 shipping and handling fee apply). Plus, get free activation and a free self-installation kit.

Guess this is SBC's answer to Cable's packages...

The best part is after the one year term is over you stay at the $44.99/mo... its not written, but lets just say there is a little birdy who told me!

Quite nice to have DSL that goes up to 3Mbps. However, does anyone know if there's a Service Level Agreement considering they're advertising 1.5-3.0?

The 1.5-3/384 is a marketing tier, not a speed tier. If you order it, it will actually be the 1.5-6/384-608 like the Expert is currently.

Once again, the 1.5-3/384 is actually 1.5-6/608!!

Existing customers CAN call in and get the new price!! It's just not advertised.

This is the same speed plan that DSLExtreme and Sonic is offering, just under a different name.

if only they had a static ip...just 1 would have been great.

slycat, you do know they have static packages right?

They lowered the price for some of the static packages 2/1

Jeez, all these great deals for SBC lines, but what about Verizon!

I'm in a Verizon area/zone and can't get SBC

man, i just called my SBC and tried to upgrade to it, but i'm too far from my CO... sigh, anyone know if i can do anythign else?

i believe they told me i had to be around 7500 feet away before i can get it, i'm about 9000... arg

Verizon has always done little for their customers.

Yeah, $50 more per month.

A very very limited number of people will actually be able to get this.

100% of them will call me and complain that they're not getting a full 3Mbps if they do succeed in ordering it.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention... HAVE FUN talking to tech support in India and the Philipines! They're supposedly getting rid my overnight shift around March and they're slowly getting rid of all of us to save a few bucks and export the labor to a bunch of idiots.

Oh yeah, they're keeping self-install support in the US to give you a false sense of hope. Have a nice day!

The bottom end of the tier is what's generally guarantee using:

help.sbcglobal.net/dsl/speedtest

i think is a bit expensive, as i am paying about 21/month for their 1.5mb dsl

and i live like 3 to 5 blocks away from the CO, so i can always max out when dling

Personally I dont take fixed term contracts for this sort of thing. It says to me they dont have enough confidence in their product/pricing to keep your custom for the next year. I dont buy that "we need a one year guarantee because we are giving it to you so cheaply BS." So much can change over a year. Especially in this kind of field. I bet by the second half of the year you are paying too much.

I agree with you regarding service from CS reps from India and other countries, however it is no better when we have CS reps in U.S. answering. Most of the time you will get an idiot on the phone who can only read from the manual they are given.

Is there any way to find out just exactly ***how*** far away you are for good DSL???

I live in a relatively new neighborhood and couldn't understand why I had to wait so long for it to be offered but now, all of a sudden Adelphia and Verizon are hammering me with Cable/DSL promos and saying that suddenly the service is available to me. Well, I know they didn't just build a phone co building close by so I'm guessing this is either because of a relay or something, but wanted to know what/where/how my downloads will go. No sense in paying for DSL (imho) if d/l's are gonna be as slow a dial-up 'cuz I'm so far away!!!!!!!!!!!! TIA

talking to CSR right now, my house is 9000ft away from CO, and i can get the Expert.

she says 1.5mbps-3mbps / 386 .. i hope the other guy who says i can get 6mbps is right

i had SBC before, and i was in contract, but they're upgrading it for free and i just sign up for 1yr again. (but no free modem for me)

I just upgraded and they brought up the fact that the price would stay at $45 after the contract. I have to wait until Feb 9 for the speed bump to take effect.

are you sure about it?

i dont' see Expert here , but i see Expert Plus,

but the CSR i just talked to said, they no longer have Expert Plus, but they have Expert, which is I just signed up for

My dsl is rated (sbc) 384-1.5mb but i ALWAYS get 1.5mb download. This package is great, but wondering if i should pay 12 bucks more for it. I needed the 384k upload also but wanted to get 1.5mb upload with 1.5mb download or higher. I'm gonna have to look in to this one...
